Ultraviolet and Near Infrared Photography - Contrail in indigo skysteemCreated with Sketch.

in #colorchallenge5 years ago (edited)

We tend to get jets flying over at high altitude making a contrail in some cases. I was checking out some pine trees and got to see a contrail being lit up by the afternoon sky. Not sure what kind of airplane it is, it was really high up. Maybe a commercial jetliner flying out west or a military aircraft.

I love the wispy clouds in the sky while the short waves of ultraviolet are reflected in the sky.

This photo is my entry for #saturdayindigo started by @kalemandra

In the second photo you can see the contrail in a little more detail without the pine branches blocking the view. Its interesting how the contrail breaks up at one point and then resumes again. Maybe it was passing through some turbulent weather breaking up that trail. You also get a wood effect in both photos showing off the reflective abilities of the pine trees. And even some lichen on the trunks is reflecting some infrared.

I take pictures with a special camera. Its a Mirrorless DSLR that has been modified by LifePixel out of state to see light in other wavelengths. This allows my camera to capture light in the Infrared [IR] around 1300NM wavelength, through the visual spectrum and into the Ultraviolet A and B wavelengths roughly into the 300NM wavelength.

I carry many filters on me to make the photos you see in my blog, these filters screw on my lens and help me isolate certain wavelengths for certain scenes. These filters can be UV/IR passthrough filters to help me get a natural photo taking out the UV and IR light. Or I may use a Infrared passthrough filter capture just IR light. I can do the came with UR light as well, though I need some better filters which they can cost a few hundred dollars for true Ultraviolet passthrough filters. So for right now I have B+W 403 filters that still allow some infrared light in, due to their cheaper material.

Hah right? I sure feel that way too looking at them.

I really liked the pictures!
I see the mark from the plane quite often in the sky.

@ludmila.kyriakou thanks alot glad you liked them. Yeah it's probably an international airplane or something like that.
