Why so blue?

Cabezon-1.jpg

The cabezon is the largest species of sculpin native to the Pacific coast of North America. The word cabezon in Spanish can translate to mean either "big headed" or "stubborn". In the case of this fish both are very true.

Cabezon can grow to as large as 100 cm (38 in) in length, and weigh as much as 7 kg (16 lbs). This bulbous headed, ornery fish are hugely protective of there territory and eggs and have no problem charging anyone or anything that may tip toe into there area.

Be cautious when photographing these fish, they won't bite but having one ram into you can be painful, as I've learned from experience.

Thanks for reading.
