Cloak Update - We're working to get the project open-sourced as soon as possible

in #cloakcoin7 years ago

Dear Cloak Community,

We hope you all enjoyed the Summer - we had a nice break to recharge our batteries.
This is just a little update to give a few details on what's happening and why.
Things are ticking along nicely with the new v2.1 wallet release, which will introduce Stealth/Cloak addresses into the Enigma system.
This significant change should boost transaction security and privacy considerably - with the introduction of multi-party Enigma stealth transactions.
These changes to the Enigma system involve a considerable amount of re-engineering and will require a considerable amount of testing to ensure everything is running smoothly and transactions are 100% safe and reliable. To address this, we'll be locking the Enigma system (sending and cloaking) to 'testnet only' for the initial v2.1 release while wider testing is carried out.
Once everything is signed off, Enigma can once again be enabled to use on the 'live' network.

As you're all aware, we're working to get the project open-sourced as soon as possible. We feel it's incredibly important for decentralized projects and will allow new developers to contribute features, enhancements and fixes and also allows exchanges and other organizations to verify the code if they wish, allowing wider adoption of Cloak. We've already had enquiries from developers wishing to help with the project, so we're pressing ahead with open source firmly in the headlights, in order to make this happen. The v2.1 source code will be publicly released on GitHub in line with the v2.1 software release. With Enigma locked to 'testnet' for initial release, this ties in perfectly as it prohibits any nefarious entities from exploiting the Enigma/cloaking system when the source is publicly visible. During the public testing period, we're planning to offer bug bounties to open up the peer review process to new smart brains and sharp eyes. We've given this considerable thought and feel this approach is much preferable to a full audit as it will greatly expedite progress and allow anyone to participate in the process.

v2.1 is currently using the existing codebase rather than the new one as the new Enigma changes are currently being carried out on the existing deployed code.
The new codebase will be made public shortly after v2.1, which will also allow more developers to contribute to the project and aid in the migration.
We'll keep you updated as things progress and lay out some more details on the Enigma addresses once we've got an internal test version running on the network.

Have a great week Smiley

Peace & Love,

Team Cloak
