Johann Heinrich Buttstett, Christ lag in Todesbanden

in #classical-music4 years ago

Johann Butstett gives another view on the choral "Christ lag in Todesbanden" than Johann Vetter or Johann Michael Bach. Just as Vetter did, Buttstett wrote a fugue with the first phrase of the choral melody as subject. Unlike Vetter's composition however, Buttstett wrote his work as a powerfull fugue, with (in my opinion) the organo pleno sound in mind. It is a solid statement and there is no mourning to be heard.

The recording was done with the Hauptwerk software and the sampleset, made by Sonus Paradisi, of the Hinsz organ in the Reformed church in the Midwolda (http://www.sonusparadisi.cz/en/organs/netherlands/midwolda-surround-sample-set.html).
