Tuba Tune in D major, Op. 15 - Craig Sellar Lang
The CS Lang Tuba Tune is a staple amongst many organists because of its catchy tune and usefulness in service. It's highly appropriate as a postlude or processional and can be extended or truncated, if necessary. Although this piece is quite repetitive, the general congregation finds music like this very approachable. In recital, this would be a suitable number to open with before launching into a Bach Prelude and Fugue. I prefer to follow the 'English' method of recital programming—that being starting off with a Trumpet/Tuba Tune before launching into a meatier piece of repertoire. This allows myself to settle into the recital environment and also breaks that sense of hostility when a concert first begins.
This was recorded with the Hereford Cathedral organ (UK) sample set by Lavender Audio using the Hauptwerk VPO software.
