BUILDERS AND KILLERS OF VISION

Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. Proverbs 29:18

Vision guides the purpose-driven life to a God-ordained destination. A vision is a sort of divine compass when combined with purpose: it helps the possessor to effectually navigate treacherous waters of human affairs. Any life without vision, hopes and aspirations is headed to a blind alley.

Vision ought to shape every Christian believer’s life perspective. It should give that believer a mental imagery of the bigger picture and what is to be done. After all, you cannot build what you have not ‘seen’ mentally or spiritually. Mental pictures in turn make the impossible look achievable. And creating a vivid mental picture is a potent tonic for faith. The Lord of heaven “helped” Abram to create a mental picture that turned the direction of his life completely around:

And the LORD said to Abram… “Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are…. For all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever. And I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if a man could number the dust of the earth, then your descendants also could be numbered. Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width, for I give it to you”. Genesis 13: 14-17 (NKJV)

THE LORD HAD A VISION FOR ABRAM; HE DID NOT CALL THE MAN FOR A FROLIC!

A MARK IN THE HORIZON!

In the daily devotional Leadership Promises for Every Day, John Maxwell wrote,

“Without a challenge, many people tend to fall or fade away…. Vision helps people with motivation. That can be especially important for highly talented people. They sometimes fight the lack of desire… Someone said that only people who can see the invisible can do the impossible. That shows the value of vision.

The Apostle Paul’s striving for divine destination that he had seen in his mind’s eye in the Book of Philippians when he said:

I PRESS FORWARD TO THE MARK…...................Philippians 3:14

By the grace of God, the man of God ‘saw’ the MARK in the foggy, obstacle-infested horizon, festooned with the imprint: DESTINATION. He acknowledged it, memorized its direction, and aimed his progression toward it. Then, he PRESSED forward with determination. Vision is having a clear picture of the RIGHT MARK to press forward!

There is a RIGHT MARK, both for the living and the striving. GOD CREATED YOU WITH A PARTICULAR MARK IN MIND. This is a wake up call, for those who think setting spiritual goals is a befuddling task best left in the hands of the clergy and the super-spiritual. There is a RIGHT MARK for every goal, for every purpose, for every life, there is a mark. Get hold of a vision of your mark, man of God, and GUARD IT WITH YOUR VERY LIFE. Note whatever tempers with your gifts, talents or creative potential can construe a direct threat or probable hindrance to your achieving the mark.

Potential cannot be maximized to its fullest complement outside the bounds of a compelling vision. The pursuit of creative potential provides brick and mortar to build an enduring vision, because it provides hard achievement capital. Vision enables a man exploit the full extent of his potential.

YOU MUST LEARN TO DISCERN POTENTIAL IN YOURSELF AND IN YOUR CIRCUMSTANCE OR YOU WOULD GIVE AWAY YOUR BIRTHRIGHT!
