Walking Down the Memory Lane: A Chatterbox Demon

제가 떠버리 귀신이라고 이름을 붙인 귀신은 필자와 기이한 인연이 닿아있는 놈입니다.
I named that particular demons Chatterbox; I have had several encounters.

오래전 제가 평신도 시절에 가족에게 들어와서 떠들어대며, 자신이 가브리엘 천사장이라고 속였었지요.
When I was just a normal(?) churchgoer, he entered into my family members, claiming that he is Gabriel, one of the archangels.

그 때 저는 귀신의 존재에 대해서 아무 것도 아는 게 없었던 때였으므로, 당연히 속아 넘어갔습니다.
I had no idea about these demons back then, so I just believed everything he told me.

그러나 그놈이 떠벌인 내용에 의구심을 제기하며 확인하면서, 이놈의 말이 거짓임이 드러나자마자 금세 떠나가 버렸어요.
But as he talked more and more, I started to doubt his sincerity. As soon as I found out he was lying, he left right away.

그때 가족에게 들어와서 성대를 장악하여 얘기를 하던 놈이, 제가 생전 처음으로 만난 귀신이었습니다.
That was the first demon I have ever encountered; and it was very memorable, since he would talk through people's mouths, controlling their vocal chords.

그러나 이 얘기를 다른 이들에게 하면 신기한 이야기로 치부했고, 그렇게 제 기억에서 스멀스멀 사라졌습니다.
When I shared this story to others, they thought it was interesting and weird, but nothing more; and just like other events in life, it became an old story that was put way back in my brain.

그러다가 속절없이 세월이 흘러 충주에서 영성학교를 열기 전에, 대전에서 성령께서 저를 훈련시킬 때, 또 다시 떠버리 귀신과 조우하게 되었습니다.
Time passed by, and I met this demon again when I was being trained to fight against demons, right before I founded CSA in ChoongJoo.

그런데 다시 만난 떠버리 귀신은 처음 만난 놈처럼 싱거운(?) 놈이 아니었습니다.
But he was not a weakling(?) I have met before.

무려 한 달이 넘게 쉬지 않고 떠들게 하는 놈이었지요.
This one chatted up for a month without stopping.

그래서 그 사람은 제 정신이 전혀 없이, 무려 한 달 동안 잠도 자지 않고 쉴 새 없이 무언가를 말하고 있었습니다.
So he has been talking non-stop, for a month, without sleeping, and he was really not himself.

입 주위는 침이 하얗게 말라붙었고, 잠을 자지 못해 눈은 시뻘겋게 충혈 되어 있었어요.
Saliva had dried white around his mouth, and his eyes were red due to lack of sleep.

보통 성인들이 불면증에 시달리면 병원에서 수면제 두 알을 처방받아 먹으면 잠을 잘 수 있습니다.
It usually takes a prescribed sleeping pill or two to help insomnia patients to sleep.

그러나 이 사람은 무려 6알을 먹었는데도 전혀 잠을 자지 못한다는 겁니다.
He gulped 6, but it was no use.

또한 생물학적으로, 사람이 한 달 동안 전혀 잠을 자지 못하면 사망한다고 하는 데, 이 사람은 버젓이 살아있다는 것이 신기할 정도였습니다.
And I have heard that humans cannot biologically withstand not sleeping for a month; but this guy kept going, alive and well.

이 사람 안에 있는 떠버리 귀신은 쉴 새 없이 주절주절 얘기하다가, 제게 말을 걸기도 하였습니다.
The demon, Chatterbox, would talk to me time to time, after hours and hours of talking to himself.

보통의 귀신들은 머리를 타고앉아 자신의 생각을 넣어주어 속이는 공격을 주로 합니다.
Demons usually like to whisper their thoughts into people; and it is the most common way to attack.

그래서 미혹의 영이라는 별명이 붙은 센 놈도 있습니다.
And some of the strong ones are called spirits of falsehood.

어째든 자신의 생각을 분별하지 못하는 대부분의 사람들은, 생각을 통해 속이는 귀신들에게 속수무책으로 당하게 되어있지요.
Anyway, people who cannot distinguish between their own thoughts and the demons' will fall into demons' traps.

그러나 개중에는 영음으로 말하는 귀신도 있습니다.
Amongst them, there are spirits that speaks through spiritual voices.

영음과 자신의 생각은 조금 다릅니다.
Spiritual voices and your own thoughts are a bit different.

영음은 자신이 전혀 모르는 상황이나 인지하지 못하는 생각이 훅하고 들어오는 것이예요.
Spiritual voices come to you as thoughts that you don't even recognize, randomly, on various topic.

이 생각이 자신의 생각이 아니라는 증명은, 자신이 전혀 모르는 지식이나 상황에 대해서 알고 있으므로 결코 자신의 생각일 수가 없습니다.
And this spiritual voice cannot come from you, since it talks of things or situations that you are not aware of.

그러나 영음이 가물에 콩 나듯이 들려오면 분별하기 어렵지만, 영음이 자주 들리면 영음의 주체가 자신이 아니라는 것을 어렵지 않게 알게 됩니다.
If these seldom come, you wouldn't be able to tell them apart; but if you hear them a lot, you'd have easier time to determine which thoughts are from you.

정신과에서는 이 같은 현상을 환청이라고 하며 정신분열 증상의 증거로 삼고 있습니다.
In psychology, people call these symptoms auditory hallucinations and consider them as proofs of schizophrenia.

그러나 위에서 소개한 것처럼, 사람의 성대를 장악하여 입을 통해서 음성으로 말하는 놈들도 있습니다.
But just like the guy I mentioned earlier, there are demons that speak through people's mouths.

제가 지금까지 수백 명의 사람에게서 수많은 귀신들을 쫓아내었지만, 이런 떠버리 귀신은 딱 세 명 정도밖에 만나보지 못했던 희귀동물(?)인 셈이지요.
I have chased demons out from many people, but these Chatterboxes were rare to meet; I've only met three of them.

입을 통해서 말하거나 영음으로 넣어주는 능력이 귀신들에게만 있는 것은 아닙니다.
Speaking through your mouth or hearing spiritual voices are not the ability only demons have.

하나님이 예언의 은사를 주시면 하나님의 말씀을 영음으로 듣거나 자신의 입을 통해서 말하기도 하지요.
God's gift of prophecy can make you hear his spiritual voice, or he may talk through your mouth.

그러나 귀신들도 하나님과 똑같은 방식으로 공격하고 있으니 기이한 일이예요.
But it is strange to see demons attack us, using God's way to approach us.

그래서 구약성경에 나오는 거짓선지자들이 바로 미혹의 영이 속이고 있으며, 바울이 빌립보에서 만난 점치는 귀신이 들어있는 여종도 입을 통해서 귀신의 말을 전달하는 겁니다.
And that is how spirits of falsehood control and rule over the false prophets; and the possessed female servant Paul met in Philippi also tells people what she has heard spiritually--they were from demons, of course.

그런데 어제, 영성학교에 떠버리 귀신이 들어있는 형제가 찾아왔습니다.
Yesterday, the guy with Chatterbox came to CSA.

제가 지금까지 만난 떠버리 귀신은, 제가 이 사역을 하기 전이거나 사역을 훈련하는 중에 있었기 때문에, 이놈의 능력을 면밀히 관찰할 수 있는 준비가 되지 않았었습니다.
I was never really ready for these Chatterboxes, since the ones I have met were so little, and it was before the training or being trained.

그러나 지금은 사역을 시작한지 3년이 지나서, 저도 이놈을 자세히 관찰할 수 있는 영적 수준이 되었으므로 이놈을 면밀하게 살펴보아야겠다고 생각했습니다.
But it has been about 3 years now; I became more experienced with these demons, so I decided to take a closer look at this Chatterbox when I have the chance.

이 형제는 아직 30세가 되지 않은 청년이었는데, 결손가정에서 자라났으며 우울증 증상이 있었지만 그리 심각하지 않았다고 합니다.
This man was a little under 30; he grew up in a dysfunctional family; he was depressed but didn't feel it was too serious.

그런데 몇 달 전에 이 떠버리 귀신이 들어와서 떠들어대기 시작했다고 해요.
However, he told me that this Chatterbox came to him a few months ago and started to talk non-stop.

그래서 고통스러워하다가 인터넷을 검색하다가 영성학교를 찾아왔다고 하였습니다.
So he suffered in pain and started to seek for help. Then he found CSA.

그런데 이 형제가 영성학교를 들어서기 무섭게, 이 떠버리 귀신이 쉴 새 없이 지껄이기 시작했어요.
Just like he explained, he started to talk incessantly as he stepped inside CSA.

그런데 듣기 고통스러운 것은, 말끝마다 저급한 욕설을 섞어가면서 떠드는 것이였습니다.
Hard thing to swallow was that his sentences all ended with lowly jokes and profanity.

그런데 귀신이 말하는 중간에 어렵사리 이 형제가 정신을 차려서, 지금 하는 말들은 자신이 하는 것이 아니라 귀신이 하는 것이라고 고통스러워하며 고백했습니다.
In the middle of the talk, he came back to his mind and told me that all the things he's said was not what he intended to say.

그러나 말하기 무섭게, 또 다시 떠버리귀신이 자신의 말을 늘어놓는 겁니다.
And then whatever he wanted to say afterward was muddled, since Chatterbox started chatting up again.

떠버리 귀신은 이 형제가 아는 지식과 경험을 바탕으로 자신의 생각을 섞어서 속입니다.
He chattered up about the information he knew about the guy he was controlling, along with the stories he wanted to tell.

그러므로 떠버리 귀신의 말은 80~90%정도 사실에 바탕을 둔 얘기를 하면서, 지금까지 이 형제가 한 말이나 행동은 자신이 그렇게 시켜서 했다는 자기자랑을 늘어놓았습니다.
So whatever he says was about 80-90% true, or at least based on truth, and he would embellish the stories or thoughts, in order to make it sound realistic; and he bragged about it throughout his talks.

그러나 어떤 내용이 거짓인지 분별할 수 없었고, 또한 떠버리 귀신은 사람들이 자신의 말을 경청하기 시작하면 본격적으로 거짓말을 섞기 때문에 무시해버려야 합니다.
But there was no way of telling what was true; and usually these Chatterboxes start lying and deceiving people once they know people are listening, so the best defense against them is to ignore what they say.

그런데 이 떠버리 귀신이 이 형제가 말을 하지 못하도록 머리와 입을 완전하게 통제해서, 이 형제가 말을 하지 못하게 하였고 말끝 마다 저급한 욕설을 뱉었기에, 할 수 없이 제가 축출기도 시간이 아님에도 불구하고 이 형제에게 20여 분간 축출기도를 하였습니다.
Chatterbox kept cursing through the guy's mouth, completely taking control over his vocal chord; so I invoked him for about 20 minutes, although we were a bit off schedule.

그랬더니 떠버리 귀신이 좀 수그러졌어요.
Then Chatterbox quieted down a bit.

그래서 마침내 이 형제에게 그간의 상황을 들어볼 수가 있었죠.
And I was able to hear what has been going on with his life.

그래서 저녁 축출기도 시간에 축출기도를 한 번 더해주었더니, 욕설을 뱉는 것은 없어졌고 형제의 말을 빼앗아서 제 얘기를 하는 빈도도 현저하게 줄어들었습니다.
So I invoked the spirit once more during the even prayer; blurting out profanity was completely gone, and Chatterbox talking over this guy's throat decreased significantly.

이 형제에게 들어가 있는 떠버리 귀신의 능력을 살펴보니, 형제의 머리를 장악해서 생각을 조종하는 것과 성대와 입의 근육을 장악해서 자신이 말을 하는 통로로 사용하는 능력이 있었습니다.
This demon had power to control people's thoughts, as well as taking control of people's vocal cord and muscles around the mouth, using them as his personal speakers.

또한 자신이 이 형제를 통제하는 것을 자랑하기 위해, 제 앞에서 손발을 조종하는 능력도 보여주기도 했지요.
He also showed me that he is able to control the guy physically, controlling his hands and feet.

이 형제는 자신이 말을 하다가도 귀신이 자신의 뇌를 통제하는 신호를 감지하고 느낌으로 알아채고 있었어요.
This guy knew and could feel when Chatterbox started to take over his brain.

그러나 이 제가 필자와 대화를 하는 와중에도 귀신이 자신의 말을 섞는 것을 전혀 통제하지 못했으며, 그럴 때마다 답답하고 고통스러워하곤 했습니다.
But he was still suffering, since he could not communicate with people or control his own body.

어째든 이 떠버리 귀신은 이 형제의 뇌와 입을 통제하는 것을 자랑하는 것을 즐겼습니다.
Chatterbox enjoyed taking control of this poor guy's brain and mouth; and he loved to brag about it.

그러나 이 떠버리 귀신이 센 놈은 아니예요.
Unfortunately, he is not the strongest one you could encounter.

이 형제 안에는 센 놈인 미혹의 영이 어렸을 때부터 집을 짓고 잠복하고 있었으며, 최근에 이 떠버리 귀신을 불러들인 겁니다.
He had spirits of falsehood inside him for a long time, since he was very young, and this Chatterbox recently decided to join in.

어째든 떠버리 귀신이 귀찮기는 하지만, 귀신의 실체와 영적 능력을 실제 확인할 수 있으니 귀신에 대한 시청각교육으로는 그만입니다.
Anyway, Chatterbox is very annoying to deal with, but it is probably the prime example of a spirit in physical ways to attack and make humans suffer.
