A Lesson In Hebrews: Evidence On Display Part 2

We talked about how the writer connects the word substance directly with the word evidence. We learned that substance is that which a thing consists of; it is real and it is factual. The evidence that God wants to present to the world is threefold.

• His work in Creation
• His work in human history
• His Work in the lives of His people

Because of high profile trials, the average American has been exposed to a lot of legal language, procedures and protocols. As it pertains to evidence, creation becomes “Exhibit A”. An exhibit is evidence that is presented to the jury for inspection. We have learned how easily evidence can become tainted. So as a result chain of custody is very important. In other words who has handled the evidence, when and in what order.

“The main concept behind correct evidence handling is that the item recovered is the same as that produced in the court room”.- Wikipedia

"When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained… "Psalm 8:3-4

The Psalmist declares that when he inspects the heavens, it is clear that there is a design. Most scientists would agree with this conclusion. They refer to it as Intelligent Design.

In Hebrews 11:3, the writer tells us that God “framed” the worlds. This word means; to be fitted, as in assembled. This suggests that the world was built and designed according to a plan or blueprint.

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Psalm 19:1

We have all heard of an artisan whose work is so distinctive, so uniquely theirs, it is unmistakable. A Picasso or a Rembrandt bears the signature of the creator. It is the same with creation. It unmistakably bears the signature of its designer.

Evidence 1.jpg

“For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” Rom. 1:20

We have detailed how Biblically, the very first thing we see God create is time (Gen 1:1). When we speak of “time”, we are referring to creation itself. So from the very beginning God signed His work in an unmistakable way.

Most of us are not art or forensic experts. We simply do not have the training to be able to tell a Picasso from a Peter Pan. However, God has made His work easily recognizable. The evidence of creation is irrefutable. Yet, many are in denial about what God has made plain.
