What Does It Mean "To Save One's Life?"
Matthews 16:25; KJV:For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it
What does it mean to save one's life?
To save one's life simply means to live for yourself. Living for self is all about chasing fleshly desires and material possessions without God being in the picture. A man that lives for himself/herself sees no need for God and does things only for self gratification.
Is it wrong to acquire wealth or to be happy and satisfied in life? No. But taking God out of the picture is what makes it wrong. Beside, anyone that places self above everything else, wouldn't mind hurting other people in order to fulfill their desires; their lives revolves only around them and such type of a lifestyle always leads to death.
Yes, living for self leads to death. Do you know that no man can actually navigate through this life successful all by himself? A man easily get lost in life when he chooses to live for himself. Outwardly they may seem like truly enjoying life but inwardly, they are getting lost and screaming for help. The sad thing about living for self is that such a person may never realize that God is the missing piece in the puzzle that he/she has been trying to solve. They'll keep sinking deeper into their cravings until they get consumed by it.
Living for self in hope of saving oneself or one's life actually produces the opposite outcome. No man can actually save himself/herself in this life without the help of God. So trying to live for yourself alone because you think you will save your life by so doing is an exercise in futility. Chasing material possessions and fleshly desires may give temporary pleasure and satisfaction, but it won't give you the fulfilment you seek in life. Only God can.
So in order to live a fulfilled life and navigate through this life victoriously, you have to lose your life for God; because it's only in God you can find your purpose for living.
