GOD IS OUR FATHER

Another aspect of the believer’s relationship with God that guarantees this access is the Father and son relationship. God is a father to the believer today as He was to Israel.

Apostle Paul in trying to establish this fact said in Romans 3:29-30:

Is He the God of the Jews only? Is He not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also: Seeing it is one God which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and circumcision through faith.

Paul in the above passage established a case in favor of the Gentiles. He pointed out that God was not a God only of the Jews but of the Gentiles also. God is not only our God today, He is our Father and we are His children.

But as many as received Him, to them He gave power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name: which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God (John 1:12,13).

Jesus taught His disciples to pray:…. “Our father which art in heaven, hallowed (Matt. 6:9). When Jesus rose from death, He met Mary Magdalene by the sepulcher weeping. When Mary recognized Jesus, in excitement, she jumped to hold him, but Jesus said to her “Touch me not: for I have not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God” (John 20:17).

I can go on and on to cite many more passages of the scripture to establish this aspect of our relationship with God. I have no doubt whatsoever in my heart that God is my Father based on my new relationship with Jesus Christ. This realization has helped me to put many things straight in my Christian life. The devil does not want us to know this and so he puts many Christians in the dark concerning this relationship. As far as they know, God is their God not their Father, and as long as they remain in this frame of mind, they would certainly not go far in their Christian faith and would also deny themselves of their rights and privileges.

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God (Rom. 8:14)

There is certainly a difference in the approach of a son to a father and that of a slave or servant to his master. I am a father to five children. Each of them knows that I am their father. When they need a thing from me, they come to me boldly. As far as they are concerned, nothing takes this relationship and confidence from them.

They are so sure of it that this is reflected in the way they approach me for their needs. As a matter of fact, because of this confidence they have, they do not need to go through their mother to ask me for a thing. This is the relationship and confidence God wants His children to have with and in Him. It is important to establish this truth because many believers have acted ignorantly, denying themselves of their inheritance in God. Until you recognize God as your Father, your approach to Him will be like that of a slave towards his master. You are no more a slave but a child of god. As far as God is concerned, He knows and sees you as such.

The problem has always been with God’s people. If there is one thing the devil is out to do, it is to rob the believer of this knowledge. The word of God has the answer to any question on our faith and relationship with God. Search to know His will for your life and stop being tossed to and fro by the devil. To be ignorant of this truth is to deny you of the blessings of God.
