Seville , Murillo Gardens

in CCS22 days ago

I loved this Giant fig tree in Murillo Gardens, Seville. The roots are so big they are pretty much human sized off the ground. The place also had many Carob trees and these gorgeous lanterna flowers that turn from yellow to pink or the other way around.

Formerly known at the time as the Gardens from Talavera o Huerta del Retiro del Alcázarto , they were renamed in 1918, in honour of the painter Bartolomé Esteban Murillo.

That is such a cool tree! I remember seeing it as a teenager when we spent a few days in Sevilla... we lived near Malaga but my parents liked to drive to Portugal on holidays, often with a short (or longer) stay in Sevilla.

It is really cool. Do you know any history it is hard to find more on it other than it being a fig tree. It did have a sign in Spanish ha

I don't know for certain, but I read once that some believe it was the first tree of its kind grown in Spain with seeds brought back from the New World.

Oh that’s cool !
