Jamson Fruits

Scientific name :- Carissa carandas

This fruit, which is known by the people of our country as Jamson, is also known by the English names of Bengal currant, Karanda, Christ's thorn and Carandas Plum. This is a species of plant that grows as a thorny shrub. The homeland of these Jamson plants, which are found in several areas in Sri Lanka, is the Mediterranean region.

This Jamson plant has the ability to withstand even intense sunlight. The fruits produced here are white when young and turn pink when ripe. Also, the best ripe jamson fruits are dark red in color. This Jamson fruit can be described as a slightly sour fruit. Also, white milk comes out from the jamson fruit. Jamson fruit should be eaten after washing this milk.

Jamson is also used as an Ayurvedic medicine in the Asian countries of Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, Nepal, Malaysia and Myanmar. These small jamson fruits are used to treat digestive disorders such as acidity, indigestion, constipation and stomach pain, as well as skin diseases, diabetes and urinary disorders.

And Jamson plants can be introduced as a good insect repellent plant to repel insects.

Jameson can also be grown in the garden as an ornamental plant. Because jamson fruits in clusters will be really attractive. Jamson fruit is rich in vitamins and minerals such as iron, vitamin A, vitamin C, phosphorus and calcium, so eating this fruit is very beneficial.
