SLC S27 Week3 - Let's Play OpenTTD:Ships
Hello everyone!
Today I am here to participate in the challenge of playing OpenTTD game organized by @sergeyk. If you want to join then:
Task 1
I have loaded my game from the last week. It was saved successfully. In the last week I made a good amount of profit and my profit making speed was also good. Now before moving next at the start of the game task 1 for this week my game balance is $216,684. My year at the moment in the game is April 29th, 1963.
Luckily I am already working in two towns near the coastal area. One is mohammadfaisal town and one is Islamabad town. These are near to each other and I can easily connect these two towns via docks and start transferring passengers.

First of all in order to build a dock I have opened build waterway infrastructure because it provides all the tools and features to use for the development and usage of water base things. This button is available on 6th number from the right side.

Under the build waterway infrastructure there is an option of ship dock on 3rd number from right side. It will work just like the bus stations or cargo stations.
To install a dock it is very critical. It took me many minutes to understand how to install a dock. I tried it again and again by moving mouse pointer and clicking in the water as well as on the ground to install it but I was not able to do it and seeing a message not suitable place. Then I searched in google to understand it and it told me there must be two plain tiles where one should be in the water and one should be on the ground.

Then I found a suitable place and placed first dock in the Islamabad town and then the second town in the mohammadfaisal town. Both the docks are at very suitable place. They both can accept passengers, mail, and food and similarly both can supply passengers and mail. The range of both the docks is good and they can cover a wide area to pick up and leave the passengers.

Then I have installed depot for the ships which is useful to buy ships and set their route to use them to start communication between the towns and for now I will start transporting passengers.
I have bought a ship from the depot which is special to transport the passengers. The ship is very expensive than the passenger vehicle.

After buying the ship I have set the orders for the transportation. It will run between Islamabad Dock and mohammadfaisaltown Dock.
Finally after setting the routes the ships has started from depot and at first it will go towards the Islamabad dock and then it will move towards the mohammadfaisaltown.

I have started transportation of the passengers with the sip and it is doing its work very efficiently. I noticed it is earning a handsome amount to transport passengers from one town to the other and there is a good amount of passengers at each dock station. Each station is giving a good number of passengers.
So the passengers are being transported from the chosen cities.
Task 2
OMG it was really very difficult for me to find suitable points to perform task 2 to build an intermediate station. I explored all the industries and their relevant production or acceptance units but I was not finding suitable points because in the sea or water there is no any resource or acceptance unit in my map.
After spending a lot of time I focused on the coal mines and power plants which accept coal. I opened all the coal mines and then I compared them with the power plants. I found a coal mine in Tanwell city and then a power plant in Funtway-on-sea which accepts coals. But in between these two points there is water and I will connect these points by building an intermediate station.
Indeed it is possible to connect them via in land road but in order to complete my task I will not use in land road.
Near the coal mine I have built a depot and a truck station to run a truck to load coal there. Then I have built a station near the water. I connected the dock with that station by pressing CTRL and it was connected successfully.
I have bought a coal truck from the depot and set its route from mines to first dock station. I have set the truck should be loaded completely from the mine and it should unload complete at the first dick and truck station which is combined.
Now I have built a dock station on the other side along with the truck station. These are connected to each other and the dock station 2 is accepting coal. Then that is connected to the power plant station via road and near the power plant station I have built a depot to run a coal truck to load coal from the dock station 2 and unload on power plant. The point to be noted is that the terrain was different so I lower the terrain from where it was higher. Here I used the strategy and way to lower the terrain as learnt in lesson 1.
In the water I have built a ship depot where I will buy a ship and it will run between the docks to transport coal.

I have bought yate cargo ship and I set up the route where the ship will go towards first dock station and load cargo and then it will unload cargo at second dock.
But here is a critical problem that by default the ship is able to transport goods so it will not transport coal. To cope with this problem I will refit the ship.

I have opened ship window. There is an option on the right side of brown colour to refit the ship. I have selected it and refit it to transport coal it had a specific cost.

Here is the complete working:
- The truck loads from coal mine
- The truck unloads on dock 1
- The ship loads coal from dock 1 and unloads to dock 2 which accepts nothing but due to settings it is unloaded completely at dock 2.
- The truck loads coal from dock 2 and then transports to power plant station.
In this way the coal is transported from coal mine to power plant by passing through the water with the help of the docks and ship. It took me a lot of time to complete it but finally I did it.
Task 3
Indeed the ship will not lost whether we make a short route or long route but it will move across that route and repeat it. It is possible that it returns very late to ots starting point and ending point because of long route.

I have developed a longest route which passes through many towns. I have placed a number of buoys on the route in the zig zag form.
I have used two docks as well one at the starting point and one at the ending point. Also I made a separate depot for the ship to run on this long route. I have bought a FFP Passenger Ferry t run on this zig zag path. The ship follows the zig zag path as I have set the order of the ship to run starting from buoys 1 to next and to end.
The ship did not lost but it followed the way points or buoys and then it returned back to its starting point and it carried our its this movement continuously
These are all the way points or buoys which I determined for the movement of the ship. There are two docks and remaining 21 are buoys. It was a dun moving the ship on a long route in the zig zag motion.

Before starting the task 4 I have already reached more than $500k. Actually each task took a lot of time in completion because I found everything very difficult and the game was running in the background so my earning was increasing continuously. So now in order to start the task I have to loose money.
In order to loose money I used lower a corner of land tool from the landscape feature. But I selected a wide area and due to which I lost a lot of money and it became less than 200k so after waiting for a few moments It was 200k.
Now I have around $200k balance. So I will start completing my task now.

I checked some of my stations to know if they need more trucks for the transportation and I found out that there is the need of more oil trucks to transport oil from the oil wells towards the oil refinery. We can see 1625,000 litres of oil is waiting to be transported.
Currently I have 10 oil trucks which are being used to transport oil. But a lot of oil is waiting for the transportation. So I am adding 5 more oil trucks at the moment. Now total 15 oil tankers are working.

Then I have checked my coal transportation and I came to know that many coal is waiting for being transported from coal mine to power plant. So I have added 3 more coal trucks to transport coal from mine to dock station so that the ship can be filled early and the transportation process can become fast. Similarly I have added 3 more trucks to pick coal from the dock station 2 and to send them towards the power plant.

I checked Islamabad dock station and there were many passengers who were waiting for the arrival of the ship. Seeing the need for the ship I have bought one more similar passenger ferry to transport the passengers fast without waiting.
After all these vehicles and ships I did wait and pressed TAB to speed up the process. I stopped it when I reached $500k.

You can see that my profit graph is increasing gradually because with time. After adding the extra vehicles and ships my profit rate increased. With respect to time my delivered cargos are also increasing.

In my opinion everything has its own importance and value. Ships and trucks both are good in their terrain. But if we compare them with the efficiency and profit then I will say ships are better than trucks.
The screenshots show that the current usage of the ships is greater than the trucks. Moreover the ships can carry more passenger and goods at one time making the transportation more fast and easy.

Ooh got it about the transfer and unload of the goods.
Regarding task 4 I asked in the comment to understand it and maybe I still did not understand if you were talking about the entire assignment.
Exactly my company were bringing a great profit and I used my funds and then regain them in a few time.
I am trying my best to learn it but it takes a lot of time for me to understand the tricky tasks like the task 2. It took me a lot of time.
Good to see that you are eager to continue in the next season as well. It will be a great learning process. Actually I am a person who never plays games but it seems interesting to me.
