The Tradition
For one, a certainty that something exists,
Something to look forward to,
Togetherness,
A day off,
A wish on the wishlist has come true.
For the other, it’s
Cash register,
Income,
Drawing in as many customers as possible,
Not losing sleep over scams,
Just saying,
This is part of it,
Tradition demands forced cheer.
And where tradition triumphs,
A group stands on the sidelines,
Especially when illusions prevail—
If you don’t join in,
You don’t belong.

This poem compels us to reflect on the fact that every tradition or celebration does not hold the same meaning for everyone, and "happiness" is not experienced in the same way by all.
Yes, the happiness that a tradition can give to one person is not the same as what it can give to another.
I imagine that is why in some places tradition is lost because it means nothing to those who are present.
Happiness is ashort state of the mind and shows at unexpected moments.
Old traditions are like our deep roots. They help us know who we are. These ways link us to wise thoughts from the past. I agree with you that if you don't participate, you don't exist!
If you don't participate in a tradition it's because you don't like it and it doesn't mean anything to you, but you don't stop existing because of it. You are still there just isolated from what others celebrate.
You are a person who only disagrees with a custom, and nothing more.

Tradition can be yours alone, you don't need to have many people in your place for it to be tradition.
I remember that I had a tradition many years ago, where on December 31 I would light some candles and watch them at different times to see how they burned down little by little.
Over the years I eliminated that tradition, I no longer have it with me.
After reading you I thought tradition is basically a habit that makes us feel better or looking forward to.
I like the candle burning.
