And the sad thing is that what you say is true, there are families that don't understand each other, problems, fights, arguments, but it's very simple, just listen to others and then speak.
If you ask me they have nothing common with happens in many families. Listening is not the same as hearing, same for understanding what is said. Many feel neglected, not heard, not appreciated and understood. If that happens it is hard to talk, which is something you also have learn. If that doesn't run into family it is a lost case at forehand.
