Are you addicted to something? Let find out.
He’s not mad. He’s not cursed. He’s just addicted.
He knows what alcohol does to him, yet he can’t stop. He tells people he’ll change, but he repeats the same thing the next day. That’s the power of addiction.
Phone and Social Media Addiction
Let’s bring it home — most of us, or I would say the majority of us, are addicted to our phones and don’t even realize it, though sometimes we know.
For example, you open your phone to check one thing, and you end up wasting 1 to 2 hours scrolling. Or some of us sleep late, wake up tired, and do it again the next day(people who love making night content, posting at midnight).
Gradually, even during meals or conversations, you’re still checking your phone instead of listening to someone who is talking to you. My dear, if you or we find ourselves in these categories, we're no longer in control anymore — our phone is.
It affects your focus, sleep, peace of mind, and even self-esteem (especially with all the fake perfect lives on social media).
How to Deal With Addiction
The first step is to admit it. If we keep denying it can only get us stuck. Set limits for yourself. Replace bad habits with better ones. The most important one is to get help — talk to someone, maybe a close friend or family member, don’t suffer in silence. Stay consistent. Change doesn’t come overnight.
Addiction isn’t only about substances — it’s about anything that takes over your self-control. Let me explain what it really means.
We all have habits. Some are good, some are bad, and some start out harmless until they grow into something much bigger — That's addiction.
What is Addiction?
Addiction is when you no longer have full control over your urge or desire to do something, even when you know it’s affecting your life. It’s not always about drugs or alcohol. It could be your phone, gambling, eating, or even work.
It starts as something you enjoy. But with time, it becomes something you feel you need. You no longer do it just for fun — you do it because without it, something feels missing.
Types of Addiction
I have mentioned drinking, pressing the phone, and social media. But there are other types of addiction like :
- *Substance addiction: taking alcohol, drugs, and cigarettes.
- Behavioral addiction: It has to do with behavior like gambling, sex, or stealing.
- Digital addiction: scrolling social media, playing video games, or constant texting.
- Food addiction: eating uncontrollably, even when full.
Real Life: The Drunk Man on My Street
There’s this man in my area — every morning, he gets drunk and causes a scene. Most of the time you will see him standing as if he wants to fall, most of the time lying on the ground, most of the time shouting at everyone, and embarrassing himself. But hours later, he returns to his senses, a gentle man in the street.
I used to think addiction only applied to people who smoked or got drunk. But now, I’ve realized it’s deeper than that. Some of us are addicted to things that look normal, like our phones, food, or even procrastination....that habit of I will do it later.
Now here is the dark side of it, addiction doesn’t destroy you in one day — but eats away your time, energy, and peace slowly. You can see why it's reasonable for us to check ourselves from time to time if we're on the safe side. What’s your take on addictiWhat’sve you ever dealt with one? How did you handle it? Pour it out.

A story about that man in your neighborhood with that taste for alcohol, I would have liked to know more about him. What led him to excessive consumption? why he becomes aggressive to the point of attacking himself and others.? He is a pleasant person without consuming alcohol but if he drinks it, he is another person without control. Human beings enslaved to a bad habit.
