Bronze Hearts
Hugo arrives home after a long day. He works as a recycler. Every morning, he goes to the different houses in his neighborhood and collects the white bags that the women put out daily. Being a recycler is a job he didn't want to do, but disobeying his parents when they told him to study led him to this situation.
His best companion is his computer. After his bath, he turns it on. He likes to play games, do research, and even talk to the artificial intelligence. In fact, he asks it, "Is it true that we've lived past lives?" The AI's response leaves him unmoved: "No, I can't give you a clear answer." This makes him think... "If in my past life I had been a rich man and perhaps had a woman who loved me, I would have loved this."
Hours pass and he remains in front of the computer, goes to the kitchen and prepares a hot chocolate, continues in front of the computer, then lies down for a few minutes in bed, at least that is what he wants, but falls into a deep sleep, immersed in an unreal world, he begins to fantasize.
In the darkness of night, twelve chimes ring. He is seen walking through the streets; the scene is surreal. He approaches a statue and suddenly sees a woman. He looks at her, and the woman speaks. He hears a soft voice... "Oh, my love, you remember me. Look, it is you who embraces me."
Hugo stares in amazement, without feeling fear. He says, “I remember you. Every night, at midnight, we met. The statue transformed into us, something we achieved thanks to our love. It was a gift from heaven. Our bronze hearts transformed into real hearts overflowing with love…” The woman in the statue seems to look at him tenderly and says, “Don’t forget me. I won’t forget you.” Hugo wakes with a start, wondering if they had lived past lives. He thinks, “I was a happier man than I am now, and I remember her.”

Sofia's comment: Wow, Felipe, you're such a romantic! I never would have guessed. You're talented, we know that. Great story.
Felipe, great story. I like your approach: a man who ignores his parents and is now paying the price. Perhaps that's what he's looking for in life: financial security and someone to share it with.
I enjoyed your story. I wish you the best of luck in the contest.
You have a talent for writing, we've already told you that. I write too, and I love it. Sometimes stories reflect our state of mind, which is why writing is so rewarding.
Good luck in the contest!
