The first month marks the general period where the embryo will have developed most of its internal organs, increasing in size and growing each and every day. The skeleton and other exterior components will continue develop during pregnancy and after almost two months, movement can be observed. Looking over the queen’s abdomen will reveal slight ripples or strokes of movement and will be most visible when the cat has decided to lay for a rest.

The queen will begin to feel fatigue towards the later stages of her pregnancy and will be seen to take increasingly longer rest breaks. Towards the final week of pregnancy, the queen will begin searching for a nesting space to give birth in. This will be her comfortable and dedicated spot where she will feel secure. Breeders will be able to provide such a space using things like cardboard boxes or other enclosed spaces. Without any other alternatives, the queen will try to enter other solutions including wardrobes and cupboards. Providing a warm and secure space will help her feel at ease and today's pet market has seen the development of a number of products to support this. Kittening boxes are a viable option as they allow portable placement and the right amount of convenience for both breeder and queen.
