Weird Cat Breed: The Japanese Bobtail
The Japanese Bobtail is a medium-sized domestic cat breed with an unusual "bobbed" tail more like the tail of a rabbit than that of other cats. The short tail is a cat body-type mutation caused by a dominant gene. The Japanese Bobtail variety is found in Japan and Southeast Asia, though it is now found worldwide.
The other unique feature that distinguishes this breed from other breeds is that the back legs are a bit longer than the front legs, giving the back legs a muscled appearance.
There are also longhaired and short-haired Japanese Bobtails. As in most other breeds, Japanese Bobtails may have almost any color or colors. Predominantly-white calicoes are especially favored by the Japanese and by cat lovers, though other colorations are also accepted by breed standards.
The breed has been known in Japan for centuries as a favored mouse catcher, and is always featured in traditional folklore and art. Elizabeth Freret was the first known person to have imported the cat breed to the USA from Japan in 1968.
Japanese Bobtails are playful, intelligent and energetic.
They are well known for being vocal and will talk to their owners in a song-like, soft tone.
This breed adapts easily to new surroundings, people and other pets and are good travel companions.
They can be easily trained to walk on leashes and learn basic commands and tricks.

Since this is a white calico does that mean it is a female cat? It is quite pretty. My experience with cats wit long back legs has been they are not very coordinated. True for this one or not? Interesting history how it came to the U S.

Beautiful cat breed. I wonder why it was designed like that tho since cats needs tails for their balance when they jump around.
