A Lovely Day of "Kitty TV" with Curator Cat!

in #cats6 years ago

I like to get on the back of the chair by the window in the kitchen eating area!

The Humans don't think I can possibly be comfortable there; in actuality, it's one of my favorite spots.

Cat
Hi there! What are you looking at?

It's just a regular chair, not a cushy thing with a wide back, either. But I get such a great view of everything happening outside that it doesn't really matter!

And the coolest thing of all?

Cat
This is a great viewpoint to see things outside!

The Humans have mounted a bird feeder to the railing around the back deck! So I get to watch all sorts of "Kitty TV" when the birds come in to feed.

Sometimes we get squirrels, as well. I'd love to get my paws on one of those!

Most of the birds don't notice that I am watching. The crows do, however, and they make quite a ruckus!

Cat
Yup! THAT is what I am watching so intently!

Yes, the Humans do let me out on the deck, but only with "adult supervision." You see, we have both eagles and large owls here... and I'd just as well not end up as dinner for a hungry raptor.

Don't believe me? A couple of winters ago, a large tree with a 20-year old Bald Eagle's nest fell during a storm. When they were cleaning it up and got to the eagles' nest, they found almost 300(!) small pet collars and flea collars in the nest material!

Well, on that light note, I hope you have all had — and are having — a marvelous day!

That amazing, I didn't think they would go for anything as big as a cat, poor things! I think you are much safer watching from that chair.

Well, Fish & Wildlife says a flying eagle "at speed" that swoops down on an animal can successfully take up to 10lbs and keep flying. Which covers an awful lot of smaller cats and dogs. Dogs are actually more at risk because their owners will take them out on the sand flats at low tide and let them run after balls and sticks... and that's when they are at risk from eagles sitting in trees on the bluffs above the beach.

I prefer watching from my indoor perches, or with my Humans escorting me.

=^..^=

Oh yes! That is horrific, poor dogs.

Curartorcat, do you have a first name? And are you male/female or other. :-)

Hi @manorvillemike, my name is Shadow, and I'm about a 2 1/2 years old male cat, rescued from the shelter. My housemates are BeBe, an older white cat, and Daisy, the Dog. My Humans are Peter and Sarah who pretty much take turns helping me with my blog and taking cool photos. And a few embarrassing ones... but we'll skip those!

=^..^=

Thanks Shadow.I'm an old guy who takes care of a nation of cats. Forgive me for asking your name I tend to forget things. Bebe and Shadow, Daisy seems sweet, but I live in an all cat world. Thanks

Yes, you have an impressive menagerie of felines!

=^..^=

Wow so cool and adorable! You have your own blog 😍

Yes it's fun! My Humans (who have "serious" Steemit accounts) helped set up this separate blog for cat content! I have a lot of fun with it.

300!?! That is a lot. You'd better enjoy TV inside

Yeah, I only go outside WITH the humans nearby. We have a lot of eagles around here... and whereas I might be OK, a swooping eagle can easily carry off an 8lb cat or small dog.

Granted, that "300" count was probably inflated by some of them having been shredded or chopped in half. It was an estimated 20-year nest, so that would mean UP TO 15 small pets a year. I'm guessing mostly small dogs... people don't pay attention and let their little dogs run loose and play during our 10-foot low tides. Dog's running after a ball on the sand flats; eagle swoops in and... bye-bye. The reason it's so bad is that our deepest tides during April-June coincide with eaglets in the nests needing food... wide open beach/hungry eagles.

Woa!! So glad you have hoomans to keep you safe 😺

Yeah, I prefer to be an armchair nature lover. We also have a flock of roaming coyotes in the neighborhood... they make it dangerous for small creatures, even though cats can climb trees.
