Theory: Rick's hatred for Jerry saves his family?

in #cartoon7 years ago
Warning! This article contains spoilers. However, it shouldn't so go binge watch Rick and Morty till season 3 episode 1 then come back.

Every Rick dislikes Jerry (except for poo eating Rick). Jerry is annoying, stupid, and always in the way. To all Ricks he is just a nuisance, and only purpose is to produce a Morty. However, Rick is completely selfish, and has no attachment to anyone. To get rid of Jerry would be to problematic, and he could simply just take Morty away if he ever so chooses.

Rick C-137 is different. He goes out of his way to get rid of Jerry. He goes so far that he destroys the council of Ricks, and the Intergalactic Federation for the sole purpose of getting Morty's parents divorced. (Season 3 Episode 1)

Why would Rick C-137 go to that extent of getting Morty's parents divorced?

If we look at S1E10 Close Rick-counters of a Rick kind we notice that Rick C-137 has memories of Morty as a baby. His eyes also start to water. Therefore he has an emotional attachment to Morty. Something other Ricks cannot understand. Which means he also has an emotional attachment to... Beth (Morty's mother). He simply cannot part ways with either of them.

Rick staying home, and not leaving for 20 years changes a lot of things. One thing it does is give Beth the security of a father. Therefore not looking to find it in Jerry on prom night. She probably was able to not give it up, and most likely Summer (Morty's sister) was never born. We know that if Summer was never born S1E8 Rixty Minutes both Jerry, and Beth become very successful in their careers.

Being that there are infinite possibilities, and in every universe Beth and Jerry did it on prom night. I say that in the original universe of Rick C-137 they didn't. Instead they focused on their careers, kept in touch, waited till marriage (because why not), had Morty, Beth wasn't drunk, Jerry wasn't incompetent, Rick was in their lives, and they had an amazing marriage... *breath* Rick probably really enjoyed his life, and guess what... He actually liked Jerry, as he was able to take care of his beloved daughter. Tragically Rick somehow lost every.

Going from universe to parallel universe, Rick C-137 was hoping to find a Jerry like his original. Sadly all he could find was a Jerry that took advantage of his daughters brokenness, stopping her from following her dreams, and having her go into alcoholism. Still Rick had hope for Jerry as he waiting as long as he could thinking that deep inside was a Jerry he once new, and loved. However, Rick simply couldn't take it anymore.

In Rick's last ditch efforts he says in S2E7 Big Trouble in Little Sanchez "Will you fix your marriage, or get a divorce already!?"

No Rick would have suggested they fix their marriage let alone recommend they get a divorce for they simply do not care. Rick C-137 goes out of his way to bring them to a therapist. He hopes to have his original Jerry, but instead finds out they are codependent. They can't get out of their rut, nor will Beth be able to leave him. Rick C-137 takes it upon himself to save his daughter from this man who preys on the weak and broken.

However, at the end of the day it's still just a theory.
