This is Buttercup.

She's our 1975 Series 3 Landrover, and J's other woman. We love her tremendously. J. loves her so much he has pulled her to pieces, and may even put her together again.

Blah blah blah leafsprings. If I happen to go anywhere near the garage, I get a run down on what's going on with Butters, so I thought I'd torture entertain tell you about it too.

We managed to find some new leafsprings off a wreck up country somewhere (well, in better condition rather than new) and J. pulled them apart, painted them, and put them back together again. I have now been told twenty times how much better they are.

It all started when J. realised that the chassis was wrong for our model car. She was a bit of a Frankenstein underneath, it seemed, and that just wouldn't do. So J.'s now painted the chassis and put the engine mounts on.

The engine's been completely dismantled and acid bathed, re-bored and honed, cam tunnel reemed out for the new bearings, big end and crank shaft machined for new bearings and on the cylinder head, there's new valve guides, valve seats re-cut (yes, he is dictating this to me) and lots of new bearings, washers and all sorts of stuff.

Basically there's new everything on every bit. But now we have decided we may as well re-paint her too!

What colour do we paint Buttercup?

We had a bit of a problem that the paint that's on it is enamel. If we wanted the original yellow car, that's acrylic, which can't be painted over enamel, so we'd have to sand the whole darn thing. So we have to get a new colour in enamel. Bye bye Buttercup yellow.

We actually have decided on the colour, after J. spent three weeks shoving Landrover pictures in my face much deliberation.
