Dutch BEV registrations up 157% YoY in April

in #cars6 years ago

Earlier this month RAI Vereniging published the vehicle registration data from April. A good moment to dive somewhat further in these data.

Total registrations and market share

As can be seen below both the number of registrations and the share of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) are up Year-on-Year. The number of new full electric cars and vans that has been registered went up from 350 last year to 900 in April 2018 (+157%). The market share increased from 1.0% to 2.2%.

Compared to March the number and market share decreased, but that is mainly because of the traditional end-of-quarter push from brands such as Tesla that always lead to high sales numbers in the last month of a quarter.
Total number of BEVs sold in 2018 so far is 5,015, which is already coming quite close to the 8,500 BEVs sold in the whole year of 2017. Based on the current trends I estimate that we will pass the 2017 full year sales total in June, which would be quite an achievement.

Best selling models

Looking a bit further in the data of the models sold it can be seen that the Nissan Leaf was last months best seller, with 268 cars sold. VW e-Golf was the second best selling electric car (125) while Renault Zoe came in third (110).
When we look at the whole year 2018 the e-Golf is the best sold BEV, followed by the Tesla Model S and the Nissan Leaf. Because of the momentum for the Leaf it is likely that this will change from May (or June) onward.
