Today's Weed News for April 23rd 2018 #ChuckSchumer

For today's weed news we go to the great state of New York.

In a recent interview with Vice News, Senate minority leader and democratic senator from New York, Chuck Schumer announced that he officially supports decriminalizing weed at a federal level.

He was quoted saying "Ultimately it's the right thing to do. Freedom. If smoking marijuana doesn't hurt anybody else, why shouldn't we allow people to do it and not make it criminal? I've seen too many people's lives ruined because they had small amounts of marijuana and serve time in jail much too long."

The senator is expected to introduce a new bill to the Senate sometime next week which is supposed to include three major proposed changes to federal marijuana policy.

First of all, Schumer wants to see weed removed from the controlled substances list all together. He also wants to fund research about driving high, and wants to use tax money to promote the growth of minority and female owned cannabis businesses. And lastly, Schumer wants weed advertising to be treated the same way to tobacco and alcohol is treated, making sure that businesses do not market to children.

Schumer is now in agreement with many other prominent New Yorkers, as well as Democrats such as Bernie Sanders and Cory Booker, who recently came out in support of federal cannabis reform as well.

Being that Chuck is the Senate minority leader, and that support for marijuana among Democratic lawmakers is steadily rising, should Democrats win big in November's election, we could possibly see nationwide legalization sooner than we think.

Schumer ended the interview with Vice by saying that if weed does become decriminalized he just might try it even though he feels a little old to start.
