New Zealand Planning Cannabis Referendum For 2020

in #cannabis5 years ago

Cannabis is available in New Zealand under strict conditions for terminally ill patients, but it's still highly controlled in many ways for others.

Lawmakers have previously suggested that over the next couple of years that they would welcome a change. As a part of the upcoming general election in 2020, a binding referendum is expected to be held. If successful, it would pave the way for the new legislation to be created. Once it is created it will still require traditional passage.

This means that people going to the polls in 2020 will have a chance to vote yes or no on this issue.

The Justice Minister, A. Little, recently confirmed these plans for that upcoming referendum. And it might sound exciting for those who need access to cannabis, but it's still going to be years before they see real change. And even when legalization is approved and implemented, it might not be as great as people expect it to be.

Not everyone is ready for the change.

Despite growing acceptance for cannabis, the Medical Association in New Zealand allegedly stands firmly against this idea and legalization altogether.

They did suggest however that they would prefer to see the issue treated as a civil one and not a criminal situation. The Medical Association still feels however that cannabis is a harmful drug to both communities and individuals.

Keep in mind that children as young as 13 in the country can be given OxyContin by their doctor, but many of those same doctors are against cannabis freedom.

They're willing to embrace pharmaceutical medications which have been responsible for contributing to thousands of deaths, meanwhile cannabis has never been attributed as a cause to a single one, but they want to point to cannabis as the problem in communities and with individuals.

For the sake of sanity and the liberty of those in the region, the war on this plant should end, as the prohibition and not the plant itself is what is responsible for destroying lives and communities.

isn't it funny lol:)

It's getting close to 1 year since it's been legalized in Canada. Aside from provincial politicians dropping the ball because they all wanted to be dug dealers and have no idea what they are doing (the "black" market is still thriving because of it), and cops implement roadside tests that don't actually measure impairment, things have been going good. Pretty much nothing has changed and people are just living their lives with the benefit of being able to do what they want a little bit more.

@doitvoluntarily hello dear friend, I appreciate you share this news, it seems incredible that they were doctors who oppose legalization.
I wish you a wonderful weekend

yes it is baffling at times to see the stubbornness toward something that could provide healing for so many, thank you for your comment:)

Let's see how much tax they can put on it to prop up the state complex...
