Today's Weed News For October 11th 2018 #BORDER

For today's weed news we go to the US - Canada border.

As you may have heard, a few weeks ago in September, the United States federal government put out a statement saying that if you are part of the Canadian cannabis industry could have issues entering the United States. I believe their exact words were that it could "affect admissibility to the US".

This caused a lot of angst and worry among professionals including writers, lawyers, marketers, growers, investors and many others.

Patricia Olasker, who is a partner at Davies Ward Phillips & Vinberg LLP commented on the initial statement saying "People had canceled trips, they pulled articles that they had written, they were dismantling websites, there was really quite a mess of response to this threat."

But thankfully, this week, the United States issued a new statement clarifying their stance.

"A Canadian citizen working in or facilitating the proliferation of the legal marijuana industry in Canada, coming to the US for reasons unrelated to the marijuana industry will generally be admissible to the US," wrote the US Customs and Border Patrol agency on Tuesday.

So basically, just working in the industry will not be a disqualifying characteristic for Canadians coming to the States.

BUT, one big caveat to keep in mind is that if the person is traveling for business reasons related to the Canadian cannabis industry, that could spell trouble.

The executive director of the Cannabis Council of Canada, Allen Rewak commented on the Tuesday's statement saying that "The language is certainly a welcome improvement and signifies greater global normalization of Canada's world-leading cannabis sector."

I feel like it's pretty foolish for the federal government in America to continue with this played-out, prohibitionist posturing.

Face it... There is no stopping the cannabis movement at this point. We are definitely way past the tipping point and the point of no return at this time. Why not just get with the program already?
