Happy Cannabis Legalization Day, Canada!

The first legal purchase of cannabis was made in Newfoundland and Labrador. Many people waited in line in front of the downtown store. Trade opened just before midnight, when the consumption and sale of marijuana for recreational purposes became officially legal.

The line was already beginning to stretch at around 8:00 pm in front of the new Tweed store, which is located in downtown St. John's, Newfoundland. Ian Power and Nikki Rose were among them. Mr. Power says he arrived around 8 pm to mark the story.

«It was my dream to be the first person to buy the first gram of legal cannabis in Canada. And here I am! I am delighted. I'm so excited that I can not stop smiling.»

The federal government set the age for cannabis at 18, Newfoundland and Labrador raised the threshold to 19, the same age as the purchase of alcohol.

This is a major change in the drug policy. Canada is becoming one of the few countries in the world to legalize marijuana for adult consumption and the first G7 country to legalize cannabis use for recreational purposes.

Not all provinces and territories have opted for the same sales system. Here are the different rules in place

QUEBEC

18, but the government of François Legault has promised to raise this age to 21 years.
