Hello everyone, hope you all are doing great?
welcome back to my blog. Today I will be writing about an interesting topic. Challenges faced by freshers in the University from my own perspective. So grab a chilled drink relax and read to the end. I hope you learn one or two things from this challenges.
They includes.

ACCOMMODATION: Most times as human beings, we find it very hard to adapt in a new environment. It seems more difficult when we don't have a roof over our heads. Freshers usually find it quite challenging to get accommodation due to low number of hostels and lodges in the Campus. The female counterparts most times fall victim of rape to male Samaritans who offer to squat them. Most students usually go to night class every night just to sleep, this can be so frustrating because the seats won't be comfortable like the bed.

ACADEMICS: School works can be so overwhelming. Inability to adapt to different lecturers ways of teaching and learning in overcrowded lecture hall can make the process of learning difficult.
Inability to understand different course content can also contribute to failure in examination.

SOCIAL LIFE: Freshers usually has this mindset that the University is a free zone, where they are allowed to do whatever they like without the prying eyes of their parents or guardian. They party around, they see themselves as the freshest and hottest students in the Campus. They seldom go to lectures and even when they do, they stay at the back of the classroom discussing and pressing their phones while lectures are going on. Most times, they do not open their notebooks until few days to the examination and they end up carrying over most of their courses due to inadequate preparations.

Another major factor under social challenges is politics. Most new students usually carry their departmental and faculty politics on their head. They attend different political meetings, they go to different lodges, hostels and market places to campaign for their candidate thereby ignoring their academics.

FINANCES: Most students are from poor homes. They find it very hard to cater for other expenses like buying handouts, textbooks, feeding and transportation after paying for their tuition and accommodation fees.

RELIGION: There're alot of churches and fellowships in the Campus. Every first semester of each session, members of various Churches and Fellowships usually go to strategic places where freshers are seen to look for new members. They offer to help this newbies with their clearance. They offer them free photocopying services, free tutorials, they even offer to show them around the school environment. In exchange these students attend their fellowships and prayer meeting. Most of these churches are wolves in sheep clothing, they manipulate these students into believing and practicing some of their false beliefs and teachings. Most times, members spend better quality of their time running errands for daddies and mummies in the church. They also spent their time praying in the mountains because they are made to believe that God will help them pass their exams even without preparing for it.

PROBLEM IN IDENTIFYING BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES: I can still remember vividly about my first day in the University. I asked an older student where the faculty of Biological science was and she directed me to a different place. Before I could find my way to my lecture hall the first lecture was over. Most time a journey of 10 minutes will take you 30minutes or more because of lack of proper direction.

HEALTH: New students are prone to health challenges, especially those who haven't left their home for the first time in their entire life. They find it very hard to cope with academic stress. Infections are easily contacted from hostel toilets and also food borne diseases can also be contacted from eating contaminated food.

DEALING WITH OLDER ROOMMATES: My elder sister told me to make getting a good roommates a prayer point, I didn't understand what she meant until my encounter with my first year roommates. Having bad roommates is the worst thing that can happen to you, they would use your stuffs without permission, lie on your bed and leave it undressed, litter you corner and make noise in the room when you're reading. You dare not complain because you're in 100 level.

SOLUTIONS
Payment of school fees on time in order to have access to school hostels.

Students should set their priorities right.

Creating balance between academics and social activities.

Finance management.

Creation of road maps at strategic places in the Campus.

Creating balance between academics and church activities.

Freshers should reduce participation in politics to the barest minimum.

Healthy feeding, personal hygiene, engaging in exercises and extra mural activities to ease off stress.
