My Community

Ibeku is a community managed by a traditional ruler known as the king. In Ibeku, as an autonomous community, before any land is sold to anybody he should be consulted. The cabinet of the king comprises of a council of elders and chiefs which is consulted before any major decision is taken within the community. Allocations come into the community from the state government and how it is spent is up to the king and his cabinet members to decide; that which they know how to do better than anyone else.

The monies brought into the community is usually allocated to different pressing needs of the community.
Houses are built for the poor; farm equipment are bought to support the farmers and to improve their productivity for them to be able to produce enough food to be consumed by members of the community and at the same time for commerce.

The development of any people depends on their willingness to work together as a single unit to achieve a common objective/goal. In this case, the goal is development, and I must say, the leadership of the king the and the general public have done a wonderful job in that regard.

Development hit my community during the early stages of the 20th century and since then we have not relented. Most people in the community are working class, they mostly work in banks, schools, labs, hospitals. There are so many schools in and around the community and as such we tend to be highly educated and that is one major factor that drives development. The leadership of my community is very supportive towards education and for that reason there are very few out of school children. We have few farmers around, but the ones we have are very skilled and dedicated.
