Introduction

In recent times the means of transportation has been diversified in so many ways such as air, water, land and railway. Back then it was mostly land and water that traders and other business men use for transportation.

It was sometimes difficult to visit during those times as transporting oneself from one place to another can take days and sometimes weeks depending on the means of transport. Then too, people used animals like camels and donkeys for this transmission

As time went on, things changed and means of transportation evolved to include:

Airplane, helicopters, jets for air
Cars, buses, tricycles, bicycle for land
Ships, boat, canoe for water
Trains for railway

All the above and lot's more has made life more efficient for those that want to travel far and wide distance. For instance, a journey of 7 days in those days has been reduced to few hours.

The various means of transportation can be listed and extensively explained below;

• Air

Modes of Air Transportation

Airline transportation is the fastest and safest means of transportation in today's world. According to my personal data, I feel that 95% of international transportation are facilitated by air. For local flights I would give it 50% because of the high cost of flight in my country.

This means of transportation is usually very effective and safe because there's is room for repair on air. Everything is double checked before the airplane leaves the ground.

As air transport has it's benefits, it's limitations cannot be overlooked. Some of which are;

• It can be so expensive for the less average class.

• It cannot be used to transport heavy and bulky products and machinery such as cars and trucks.

• Harsh weather conditions can put a stop to potential travels which in turn can delay appointments.

• It only favours long distance travels such as international flights.

• Land

Modes of Land Transportation

This is the most common and we'll utilised means of transportation in today's world. It can be sub divided into rail and road transport. Land transport is mostly patronised because individuals can use their private cars in other to facilitate this journey.

It's very beneficial for short distance journey and some of its benefits negates the benefits of air transport and vice visa as well. It's relatively cheaper and with the right type of machinery such as tractor, bulldozer etc heavy and bulky products can be easily conveyed from one point to another.

Just as the air transportation favours long distance travels, land transport doesn't. It's not suitable for international travels as one can spend weeks on the road amidst all border officers and all worth nots.

• Water

Water is one of the oldest means of transportation. It's second to land. Back then when international personnels visit a country, they first journey through the seas then land at the river bank, after which they'd journey to the village using any available means which was usually animals such as donkeys and camel.

Modes of Water Transportation

Personally, I don't fancy traveling in water. It favours heavy equipments. Most fancy, luxurious cars we see today was shipped. They spend as long as 1-3 months on water before they reach their final destination.

Some other ships are used for entertainment purposes and they travel short distances. Usually they rest once the reach a destination and sail back when appropriate.

Water transport to me is very risky because of the width and depth of the water involved. Anytime a ship capsizes. There's little or no effort made to save the goods. If it involves humans, they're first saved before any other thing.

• Rail

This was introduced to augment land transport users. It comfortably sits in between land and air transport because it operates on land and air because it's relatively faster than ordinary cars and buses that plys through.

Modes of Rail Transportation

It's performance isn't based on the weather as against air transport, rather it focuses on the smoothness of the tracks. It operates in an uninterrupted manner and doesn't give room for petty stops faced by land transport users

Introduction of rail transport has helped in creating more job opportunities for individuals seeking to find a place in the society.

Conclusion

No matter the means one might use, it's better to take into cognizance the risks and benefits involved in other to manage it. For those that believe in luck, a successful trip is usually a thing of good luck.
