This is the second part about what is happening with @steemhunt. If you missed the morning post, you can read it here.

The @steemhunt team is really committed to the Steem blockchain. This is essential if we are to see mega-success on here. Having development teams that are 100% behind us and make this blockchain grow through their applications is what will provide the forward momentum. It is my view that the developers are the most important players on the blockchain at the moment. They are the ones creating the applications that people are going to use.

A few weeks back, @steemhunt opened up a Witness node. Big deal you say? Almost everyone opens up a Witness node.

While that might be true, this team is committed to being proactive. Since they became a Witness, they offered up a few ideas in an effort to improve Steem.

Before getting into that, it is important to view what two of their main initiatives are.

  1. They want to focus upon company-wide growth as opposed to individual growth. The first part of these posts touched upon that through their most recent partnership.

  2. They feel that it is time to focus upon the scaling of the blockchain while making it more user friendly based upon the Steem DApps.

We can see this taking place with their application and now they want to be a part of expanding it throughout the entire ecosystem.

A write up about their Witness program can be found in this post.

Hard Fork 20 gave applications the ability to onboard users. In keeping with their aggressive approach, @steemhunt already has a beta version of user sign up in operation. It was announced a couple weeks ago and went live within the last week. Hopefully, they will work through the process quickly and move that out of beta soon.

Speaking of on-boarding users, the team also announced an initiative to make the entire process easier for all DApps on the Steem blockchain. They seek to establish an integrated database and API which all applications can use for whitelisting/blacklisting of users. It will come complete with phone verification.

This is a very important process when seeking to use Account-Based Voting. One of the drawbacks to this system is that everyone has an equal say based upon the account. Without other factors, accounts do not need a stake to interact as much as they want. This opens the door for spammers and other activity that goes contrary to what the applications are trying to achieve.

Having a shared system would allow all applications to see what others are blacklisting. Thus, if there is a spammer on @steemhunt, a new application will be able to blacklist that account to prevent spamming from happening there.

We will see how this initiative unfolds since it was just announced. However, I love how active this team is in spotting problems and coming up with solutions for them. This obviously is outside the bounds of their application meaning their concern is for more than just their app. Of course, on Steem, everything is a bit self-serving since any benefit enhances the entire ecosystem.

That said, I believe their dedication to Steem to be genuine. As I mentioned, their tendency has been to be very aggressive with their application and now we are seeing it with the entire blockchain through their standing as a Witness.

One thing I need to point out, they had an initial airdrop of 100M Hunt tokens. It was a 1:1 drop yet under 20% of the tokens were claimed. While it would have been easy to either dust the tokens or keep them in-house for other projects, the team came up with other ways to pay the tokens out. In other words, they are intent on getting the Hunt token in the hands of Steemians. Being an early adopter has its advantages.

All this leads reaffirms my decision to cast a Witness vote for the @steemhunt team. I am obviously not the only one since they are shooting up the Witness rankings. After a few weeks, they are in the 30s already.

While not suggesting anyone vote for them, I would urge everyone to take a closer look at what this team is all about and what they are doing. It is worthy of some consideration.

It is impossible to determine what the markets will do with pricing. However, if the @steemhunt has anything to do with it, the market will like what takes place with this coin. They are really establishing themselves as a committed leader to this blockchain. With this seeking to do for Steem what they did with their application, we could all see some major benefit.

And that is the stuff that tends to get attention.

All this (part I and II) and the design and colors of the Steemhunt website are pretty amazing too!

I upvoted Steemhunt for Witness too... Well-deserved!

Thank you for this @taskmaster; I've been seeing a lot posted lately about steemhunt; I just read part one and now two and have a couple of questions for you:

  • Obviously this is a big question, but can you tell me in a nutshell how they go about adopting the SMT protocol to get on the exchange?
*since so many tokens weren't claimed in their airdrop, how does one go about obtaining them now? Like you, I appreciate that they're trying to "get them in the hands of steemians".

Thanks again for the write up; I'd forgotten how much I can learn from you :)

To get Hunt tokens, there are a number of ways.

  1. Post articles/videos about @steemhunt which helps to spread the word about it. Be sure to post on their discord group the link to your article (under contributions)
  2. Download the chrome browser they put out and use it. Will earn 30 Hunt a day.
  3. Press the button on their site ever 6 hours to get a free roll which earns tokens. Their days starts over at 11 ES T so can do it at 11, 5, 11, 5....

As for the first question, it requires the protocol to be released first and Hunt tokens to be officially SMTs. Once they implement that token on the exchange, all others are eligible. It is just like the ERC20 protocol, all tokens created using that are eligible for exchanges or wallets that accept it.

I also like the way they are taking advantage of claiming accounts in an efforts to onboard new users directly into their community but providing access to the complete STEEM ecosystem. I imagine that their onboarding will support new users and potentially improve user retention which continues to be a challenge.

Yes the applications onboarding users is crucial. It is good to see them start the process.

I feel very strongly that retention rates will be better when people sign up through the apps that they like as opposed to the more generic Steemit.

Great two-part article about Steemhunt. It has a lot in common with what I have seen closely on the team and the potential they are bringing to the industry.

The real part I am most convinced is the execution and speed of the team. They just deliver before starting to discuss and pivot it from there to a version matching to the real environment. So I am sure that the further road may not be easy but that the Steemhunt team will find its way. And as mentioned, successful SMT's with already working products and a viable community and customers will help also to boost the Steem economy for sure.
