dStors Keeps Getting Better: Going After Airbnb

in #busy5 years ago

This morning I wrote a post about a new application that has enormous potential called dStors. As you can guess, this stands for Decentralized Stores.

Here is the post:

I went through a number of posts to gather the information I wrote in the article. In going over what I did, it seemed that this was an online store similar to Etsy or Facebook marketplace. As I thought about it more, a company like Amazon could be replicated also. Anything that is an online platform that brings buyers/sellers together is eligible to be decentralized.

One of the biggest platforms that had success over the last few years with Airbnb. This turned the lodging industry upside down (although it did not replace it). It gave people the ability to earn extra money renting out their spare rooms. It was an application that brought people together in a way that was not seen before. This was another "Uber" style service that was nothing more than an application.

The drawback to this centralized system is the fees. People putting their rooms up for rent were giving up a portion to Airbnb. This was acceptable since something was better than nothing but, as we see with the Uber-driver conflict, these entities can get very greedy. Hence, the people making the system a success end up getting a small piece of the pie.

dStors has the answer to this. They decided to take on this by entering the travel market. They established a travel section which will allow for a variety of things to take place. To start, like Airbnb, one can either rent out a room or rent one for a night or two. It does serve as a lodging platform.

They also are turning travelers into journalists by offering the ability to post about one's journeys on their platform which earns tokens. This turns the entire experience into content, which we know is ideally suited for the Steem blockchain.

This was an important piece that I missed and wanted to share with everyone. It also shows how there is little that Steemians cannot offer up a solution to with a bit of creativity and innovation.

Pulling this off is going to take a lot of work but it seems they are assembling a good team to build upon. That is crucial. I only hope they keep us updated and take their application, once released, and keep adding to it.

Like so many things on this blockchain now, if this works out, it could be a game changer for this blockchain.

That's awesome for me. I travel for work and use Airbnb quite a bit. Renting an apartment with a lease isn't a good option for me, because I never know for sure when I'll be getting laid off and moving on to the next job, God knows where. Spent about 4 months of this year in one Airbnb or another. I would rather spend my money here, given the chance. :)

This is pretty epic like when we won the Netcoins thing I was pretty jacked thinking cool I could spend my steem without conversions and buy stuff but yeah I think it’s only in Canada for now!

I’d really like to test out dStores and any eCommerce apps that would make use of steem and show people you can buy tangible things with what you earn in steem that’s what will make it real for many people and not see it as some make believe internet currency

I havent heard about it before, but seems interesting. The blockchain is expending and more interesting projects are popping up to satisfy every need :)
