Splinterlands Sunday!: Archmage Arius!

As I had recently celebrated the fact that I have been able to complete my Collection with maximum level Summoners, I realized that one of the available ones would be difficult to achieve given the randomness and cost of being able to get it. However, a couple of days ago, as I woke up to restart my Daily Quests (yes, I wake up in order to not lose the opportunity), I was lucky enough to pull one from my Daily Mystery Reward! At first, I thought it was a dream as I did not think it would ever happen given that I had read that only 90 would ever be printed as they each come already at maximum level.

I believe we were over 50% of the available opened which is why the value of the card over double since the announcement of how limited they would become. The value was the other reason I thought I would never get it as I has missed the opportunity to buy below $200 as it has not gone below $350 since the disclosure. I believe that these would be even more scarce than the exclusive Kickstarter Promo Edition cards issued last year for the Dragon Splinter (Shin Lo is the other that may compete). I find it great that they continue to add so much special cards to the Dragon Splinter given how well they can be played without really being overpowered.

However, it has been interesting to find situations to really play the card as its high Mana Cost makes it sacrifice space that would otherwise be used on other Monsters on the team. They recently reduced the Mana needed to 5 to see if it would incentivize players to use it more often as I believe it was 7 before. The clear scenario to use it is on the higher mana battles which have become more common after the launch of the other Legendary Summoners which also have a 5 Mana to be used. However, I feel that the high percentage of matches that use Silenced Summoners as a ruleset has also made it a difficult card to use.

What the card definitely does is provide even more versatility to the Dragon Splinter which has normally been a complement or supplement to other Splinters. However, now the powerful Summoner provides a great way to benefit from a number of ways of attacking that the Dragon Splinter Monsters has in its abilities. As a collector, I have always wanted to have all the cards which I am glad to say that allowed me to accumulate a number of these Dragon Monsters which are almost always linked to special offers from the game’s development. This made me go out and completely maximize my Lightning Dragon as well as it was only level 3 but gets very strong at level 4.

The task of having a complete collection will continue to be challenging as the game continues to grow and expand over time. With new activities to do outside of Arena style battles, I am sure that the amount of items to collect will also grow which will add to the scope of things to do within the ecosystem the developers are building. While I continue to focus on prioritizing these activities despite my busy schedule, I cannot wait for the game to become more mobile over time which is on the list of development we are waiting on. This is why I continue to try my best to collect it all and try to have a little of everything on the sidelines just in case!
