💀 Exploring the Catacombs in Paris! 💀
While visiting Paris, we went to visit the famous Catacombs. In the 17th century, Louis XV issued a law that no more bodies were to buried within the capital, due to lack of space. Most of the city cemeteries were full, and they worried that the dead bodies would cause health issue.
They decided to excavate all the bodies around the city and build the Catacombs. There are over 6 million people buried in the Catacombs. It took over 12 years to move all of these bodies.
@teamsteem and I got to walk through a section of the Catacombs. I took some photos to share with you.
They often took the skulls and created patterns out of them. The photo above is a cross made out of skulls.
It's very eerie, but the bones are what make up the walls in the Catacombs.

Weird how they did that. And every one of those skulls represent a real Life with dreams, hopes, desires, failures, successes etc..etc..

I remember having visited the non-public version of the catacombs when I was a 25 y.o. kid. I was brought, by a pair of friends, directly down into the catacombs. We entered via a sewer-like plate that they removed with appropriate tools. We then walked in mud and water, sometimes climbed on stones, etc., we also met a bunch of crazy people organizing parties, pancake fairs, and so. Yes, all of this inside! This was damned cool and I have a lot of memories of that. I hope I could find back the pictures and share them if you are interested. Note that I am probably too old for doing that again today ;)
I have however never been to the official museum. Should do it one day.
