Hurricane Dorian Strengthening Continues As Does Path To Florida

Good morning. Hurricane Dorian is now considered a major hurricane and continuing its date with destiny in terms of slamming into Florida. Because the steering mechanics are slowing the system and its timeframe down a bit, that gives it more time over water. More time and favorable conditions will equate to the unthinkable for someone on the east coast of Florida, so please take this storm seriously.

For us up here, our news is small news, with Labor Day Weekend holding, but maybe a better chance of showers on Monday.

Look for sunny and very warm conditions today, with relatively comfortable conditions humidity-wise, but we climb up into the mid to upper 80's. You can see a weak front pictured in the satellite above, and that'll pass with little fanfare, but help cool us down a bit tomorrow.

Upper 70's to low 80's, comfortable dew points, low humidity, and sunny skies rule tomorrow for a perfect holiday weekend start. As highs pressure slips away, we'll have a return flow that'll help bring in some clouds. Expect clouds and sun on Sunday, the slight chance of a sprinkle, and highs in the upper 70's.

For Monday, the return flow interacting with a weak front, may enhance the shower action, and we could see some increased humidity and extra showers in the area. Look for more clouds than sun, and highs in the upper 70's to low 80's depending on clouds and precipitation.

As far as the tropics, Hurricane Dorian continues its trek towards Florida. Models have merged in agreement that South Florida to Central Florida need to watch closely. This is a compact storm in terms of the worst winds, so we'll be watch that eyewall closely to see where landfall may take place.

From the center of the storm on northward, Dorian will be bringing in a lot of water; so just because you're not affected by the worst winds, doesn't mean you're out of danger. At this point, coastal areas from St. Augustine on southward, need to make preparations now, get your evacuation plans ready just in case, and go over your supplies to make sure they're up to date.

The path remains indefinite, and there will be changes/tweaks as we go on, but with a category 4+ hurricane looming, do not take this lightly. As far as inland parts and the west coast of Florida is concerned, wind will be secondary to the rain. Big rainfalls are expected and flash flooding is possible, especially as everything grinds to a halt movement-wise.
