Old age is an inevitable part of life. Our brain, however, learned some very useful tricks to slow its effects as much as possible longer. This according to a new study published by Science Alert.

Over the years, the way we categorize information changes. In other words - the elderly offset slower cognitive response to a stronger concentration.

"The results show that older people compensate for deterioration of cognitive processes such as perceived and processed much more detailed individual incentives," wrote the team from the Ruhr University Bohumskiya.

The researchers conducted an experiment on 17 young and 10 elderly people. Participants were asked to rank the circles with different color combinations in the correct categories.

Some color combinations were quite similar, while others - different. Each participant was instructed about where you should go rounds.

Young and older participants had no problem sorting of similar circles. The latter, however, have difficulties in the arrangement of these different colors.

Scientists have found that, although adults have more difficulty switching from one strategy to another, they have paid much more attention to details, they have looked at things more than young people.

"To some extent, the brain slows down the negative effects of aging by increasing its ability to focus more closely on the individual task," the authors said.

In other words, less brain energy is more efficiently targeted.

The next goal of the team is to show the same effect in a much larger group of people.
