Deontay Wilder goes through the trenches to beat Luis Ortiz

A fight which will always be remembered by boxing fans in years to come, took place at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York. WBC heavyweight champion overcame adversity and harsh opinions from critics by defeating Luis "King Kong" Ortiz by Technical Knockout in the tenth round of what was seen as a very competitive fight.

I would like to first commend both fighters for fighting with their hearts on their sleeve. The pair of them went through sticky moments and both ate some huge shots, I wish them the best recovery and I am glad they returned back to their families safe. Before the tenth round finish, Wilder had Ortiz down once in the fifth round and then found himself in trouble after being noticeably hurt himself in the seventh round. It definitely looked like Wilder could go any second in the seventh as Ortiz had hurt him with punches in bunches. The Bronze Bomber held up to his trash talk by overcoming adversity and showed bundles of heart by surviving the seventh round. He then came back to finish Ortiz in round 10 as he first scored a knockdown against the Cuban schooled heavyweight which had then led to a sensational finish by making sure Ortiz doesn't get back up.

To date, Luis Ortiz was Deontay Wilder's biggest test and I always knew he could mix it in with a real top 10 fighter which is why I always criticized his opposition but now there is no criticism on my side in regards to Wilder.

Many will ask, when will Wilder face Anthony Joshua? The truth is not any time soon. Wilder is doing the right things, however Joshua is yet to become a household name in USA. My guess is that Joshua will fight in America after the Parker unification fight assuming things go to plan for Team Joshua. Both teams realistically don't want the fight to happen yet as they both know they can make three times more money if they wait for a bit.

Deontay Wilder is doing the right thing by using Joshua's name in his media runs and press conferences. 14,000 attendance at the Barclays for a huge heavyweight fight is quite laughable, especially from the numbers that the Matchroom cards generate for a fight of that magnitude, however it's much better than what Wilder has seen in the past from struggling at selling tickets in his hometown of Alabama.

Wilder is finally going in the right direction which I want him to in order to make Joshua-Wilder a more exciting fight worldwide.
