Meet Bowery: A post-organic produce startup
Bowery is a hyper-local hi-tech farming startup that my good friend from the Bitshares forums (and the guy who told me about the project!), The Gingerbread Man, co-founded. I'm really excited about their start up because they are building a highly efficient indoor urban farm to meet the food demands of this century.
Instead of having to choose between high cost, high quality "organic" foods and lower cost, pesticide ridden food from thousands of miles away, Bowery is innovating to bring high quality AND low cost food to the people. It's amazing!
Their approach leverages robotics, LED lighting, and machine learning in order to detect the exact nutrients that plants need, and automatically deliver these nutrients straight to the crop via water. And due to the fact that their farms are deployed indoors, they are able to grow year round without having to factor in seasonal changes to weather.
I can't wait to see this technology deployed in my city, Detroit. More efficient growing operations means fresher, lower cost food can now be grown in urban environments at a scale necessary to meet the demand of the local population.

Sounds soo good, nearly too good to be true. Could it be the complete solution for our food problem? Is this the answer to the land damaging agro business, given from the heart of urban environment ?
Maybe Bowery works for fine salad, but what about potatos, soy or corn which is produced on a grand scale.
They are just a seed right now, but perhaps they can grow to be a tall stalk of corn!
There's a lot of unused industrial space across the rust belt they could expand into. Maybe they could make it the Rust Basket?
