Ulysses, James Joyce. First American Edition.

James Joyce (1882-1941) is a titan of modern literature, and his 1922 novel Ulysses is arguably the most important work of the twentieth century. It was first serialized in an American journal from 1918-1920 before being published by Sylvia Beach in Paris in 1922. A high point of modernism, Joyce employed a stream-of-consciousness technique, experimental prose, and careful structuring to describe the course of one day in a man's life, that of Leopold Bloom. There are numerous parallels to Homer's Odyssey and it is also highly allusive.

Since the novel's publication, it has been subjected to endless scrutiny and praise, with T.S. Eliot claiming "I hold this book to be the most important expression which the present age has found; it is a book to which we are all indebted, and from which none of us can escape." Nabokov even called it "a divine work of art" and "the greatest masterpiece of 20th century prose." We all owe a debt to Ulysses, and if you haven't read it yet I highly suggest picking up a copy! This is the second printing of the First American Edition:
