Book Review: "The Girl in 6E" by A.R. Torre

Hi Steemians!

Book review time: Today we're talking about The Girl in 6E by A.R. Torre, an erotic thriller.

The book is about a 21-year old woman called Deanna Madden, who struggles with the constant urge to kill people and has therefore locked herself permanently in her apartment. To make ends meet she is working full time as a cam girl from her setup in her flat. She interacts with many different clients online, but when one of them starts giving off strange vibes that worry her, she decides to investigate. When a little girl goes missing, she starts to think it might finally be time for her to leave her apartment after all to try and find her.

The only reason I finished this book is because it was such a fast read. Other than that I don't have very many positive things to say about it.

It certainly has been a while since I read a book THIS ridiculous. Not only is the premise ridiculous, but also everything that happens seems very implausible and especially towards the ending everything went way too smoothly. I wanted twists and turns and literally anything of INTEREST to happen but unfortunately it never did.

Deanna is a horrible narrator. Not only does she think it's enough to call yourself a "killer" to be one, she also talks about herself nonstop, constantly trying to point out to you how BAD of a person she is and how DANGEROUS but also how SEXUAL and HOT and UNINHIBITED. My lord, that got old quickly.

She doesn't seem to realize that aside from being bloodthirsty and having the general WILL to kill a person, you also need to actually be physically capable of doing so, which she quickly finds out she is not. I got so annoyed at her, having told us pages upon pages that she is such a KILLER only to find out the first time she actually tries to do it that she's definitely not trained for it. Particularly since she apparently prefers hand-to-hand combat to shooting someone.

I get that this book is probably not supposed to be taken 100% seriously but I just couldn't handle the ridiculousness. The writing style is mediocre at best, the thriller aspect almost non-existant (let's be honest, we all knew who did it from the start) and Deanna's involvement is only marginally relevant imho.

Literally nothing in this book came as a surprise to me. I think the author occasionally tried to imply some red herrings but they were so poorly done that you could instantly tell what she was trying to do. Anyone who reads a lot of thrillers and automatically questions everything would have easily jumped to all the right conclusions instantly.

Overall this was a less than mediocre book, standing out from the masses only by its inclusion of explicit sexual content. If you read exclusively for that and don't care about the story behind then go for it. Otherwise I recommend you find something better to read.

Hope you guys enjoyed this review!

Have you read The Girl in 6E and what did you think? Let me know!

Happy reading!
