People just don't like being nice to each other any more

in #bnb6 years ago

Running a little bnb has been an immense blessing as we get to meet many people from all walks of life and all over the world - all of them have been real lovely people, another blessing as some guesthouse owners often tell us about the bad guests they've had!

Each guest that steps through our door is a VIP - whether it's a fresh young apprentice here for training or a high court judge!

Most arrive excitedly, either starting a vacation, for workshops, seminars, training and a myriad of other stuff.

Some even set up office here for short periods - that's when highly confidential stuff are being dealt with - real interesting guests as we get to read the newspapers afterwards and see for ourselves what good work they've been doing.

Many stay over for special celebrations- weddings, engagement parties, 21st's, or other special milestones.

Then there are those who are here for sad occasions - family illness or even death, like recently a family came who had lost an entire household in a car crash. Really a tragic story - this family's disabled adult daughter had to be rushed to hospital after a fall, parents and their two other children in their 20s drove home at 2 am. A drunken driver sped through a red traffic light and killed them all. Apparently when the disabled daughter was told, she had a heart attack and died! Almost unthinkable that one family were wiped out by one person's irresponsibility! Our hearts just went out to the family left behind.

Today a new guest arrived from the UK - here doing mission work - he was so touched by the warm welcome received, thanked us and his words were It's just so nice to be welcomed like this, people just don't like being nice to each other any more!

I thought to myself - what a sad world we live in!

Those words stuck and I started thinking about what he said and about qualities that are lacking in the world today and it all boiled down to one word:

Empathy
The world lacks empathy!

What can we do to make the world around us a better place?
Empathy costs nothing but a little of your time; a smile, a touch, a cup of tea or just a willing ear; simple things.

The world is a harsh place but the world around you need not be the same.

If we all did just a little kindness, think what a different world it could be.

Try putting the famous quote by Anne Herbert into action: Practice random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty.

Who knows what a change it could make in someone's life - there are many lonely people and a little smile or a helping hand will make the world of difference in their lives.

So let's start being nice to each other again; who knows, you may just meet a kindred spirit and find a new friend!

I would have to agree. The world is lacking empathy. When did we become so busy that we forget the little things? A smile goes a long way. The rule we had in my house when we were growing up and the one I tried to pass on to my children and grandchildren is simple. Treat others how you would like to be treated.

It is terribly sad that the world is too focused on me only! Great that you're teaching your children and grandchildren those values. Thanks for stopping by @cecicastor, take care of yourself :)

Thank you so very much for the shout out, really appreciate it :)

Excellent friendly publication, that is the word lack of empathy, among human beings, first of all I greatly impact the family accident that you comment, I imagine how terrible it must be to go through such cruel moments, I dare to think that this family had fulfilled their mission and they had to leave together. We return to the topic, during my productive life I work in key sites, which were for user attention, I cried, I laughed, along with all my clients, who came looking for a service and ended up finding out about their lives, I learned to be nice to people, I left my problems in my home, today you make me remember so many exciting adventures that I would not finish writing, I always say that the success of a business is the treatment that is given to people, the other listening key there is nothing more pleasant than feeling important because they listen to us and see in the face the interest to our conversation. So, you know if you know about empathy and your business will always be prosperous and pleasant for those who are lucky enough to get there, best regards @lizelle

So true Lizelle, people just have forgotten or have never been taught how to be kind and thoughtful.
So sad about that family and then the heart attack on top of the accident.
When it rains it certainly pours.

The heart attack was a blessing in disguise as the lady was disabled and her parents always worried about what would happen to her when they were no longer there! But so terribly sad that an entire household were taken all at once!
I think we can all do a little kindness and start changing the world around us.
Thank you for your support :)

Yes, I did catch that part about their fear, sometimes the Lord does answer people's prayers in ways that we can actually see.
You are most welcome and very deserving of my support.
