HIGHLY CHOKED!
Fashion is a fickle beast!
It was just yesterday that chokers were long forgotten and today every other girl is drooling over chokers and I’m no different. Chokers are back with a bang on the red carpets, in music festivals and in every other occasion. Keeping up with the current trend in the market, I’ve always been fond of chokers right since when I was in 4th grade (that’s when I bought my first choker – really!). So chokers are a close-fitting necklace worn around the neck, and are made up of variety of materials like leather, metal, beads etc. I’m a 90s kid, and I remember Britney Spears flaunting it quite often back then.
However, did you know that chokers have had a long history (No! I won’t bore you with that) but chokers came in the limelight in the year 1863 with a painting called ‘Olympia’ by a French artist Édouard Manet and it was a highly scandalized painting (google it).
Later in late 1800s, Alexandra, the Princess of Wales, was seen wearing a thick rows of pearls and velvet to cover a scar on her neck and since then it was taken as a Royal trend that continues to follow even today. (Shouldn’t we thank her for such a brilliant idea?)
In India too, choker necklaces have been worn over since the Mughal Era and even today, women in few states of India wear it like an everyday accessory.
So for this look, I’ve combined a black laced off shoulder top in a cotton fabric with a high-waist jeans to give a chic look and wore a tribal silver choker to give an earthy feel to the whole look, and paired it with a silver sling and black velvet shoes. The choker and the sling bag is complimenting each other quite well. It’s a perfect outfit for an afternoon movie or a lunch date, as it’s simple, easy to go yet classy. Chokers have a tendency to enhance and revamp any outfit, so next time if you’re confused about how to go simple on accessories yet look classy, you know what to opt for
