The fishing continues today for day 6 of the 60th annual BIG ROCK tournament.

There is over $2 million (USD) prize money on the line over all for this tourney. THE BIG ROCK is one of the biggest fishing tournaments in the United States and occurs each year right here in Morehead City, North Carolina.

Through out the week fish have been brought in for weighing at the Big Rock landing in downtown Morehead where the crowds gather and watch in anticipation to see where the anglers will rank. With so much money on the line it is no surprise that the crowds gather for the weigh ins.

This afternoon will be the last chance for anglers to place. No more lines will be cast after 2pm today, but if you have a fish on the line by that deadline you can still bring it in.

So far HONEY HUSH remains the boat with the largest Blue Marlin and may be awarded the most prestigious prize at this evening’s award ceremony.

HONEY HUSH’s captain and crew are friends of mine so I have been following this competition very closely.

Yesterday a boat was penalized for keeping and killing a Blue Marlin that was underweight per contest rules. When you gaff a Blue it has to be greater than 400lbs, but the weight is difficult to determine while the fish is in the water on the line. Unfortunately the boat DUNRIGHT made a bad call and brought at underweight 359lb Blue to the BIG ROCK LANDING for weigh in. This means that DUNRIGHT will have to pay a fine and will lose points toward their prize money over all.
