Why you Should Fight for Free Speech

‘First and Third World' problems are always amusing when placed side by side. If you live in a place categorized as the later like I do, it does seem like first World concerns are not concerns at all, merely the yapping of spoiled kids. Lately, I have watched our problems slowly aligning, which could only be a regression on the path of the first World.

When it comes to free speech in the third World, it is non existent in most nations. There is a popular saying credited to a former Nigerian dictator “Freedom of speech I can guarantee, but freedom after the speech remains a question”. That is how free speech is handled here with harassments, intimidation and abrupt silencing.

It is therefore harrowing to see this issue coming into play for first World countries as the clampdown on free speech heightens to the extent of boycotts, threats and even violence. If you agree to be silenced, it only paves way for further intimidation, leading to an unending cycle of control.

There is still time to act in both societies, even though the window is a lot more closed in one than the other. An inability to resist the mainstream controllers will set the tune for graver consequences imagined presently.
