NEEDS a Reform

I know I will be accused of hate, bigotry and as many things the politically correct crowd can conjure, but the fact remains that something appears fundamentally wrong with the way a lot of Muslims practice Islam. The mere fact that non Muslims are largely affected by this issue alongside Muslims themselves begs an urgent need for a reform.
There is virtually nowhere in the World where Muslims hold a significant number that violent extremism or extreme discrimination is not present.
Here in Nigeria apart from the extremist groups like Boko Haram and militant Herdsmen, laws backed by government particularly in the Northern part of the Country are in open discrimination against non Muslims and even some Muslim minorities.
Before you call me a bigot, it is interesting to note that Christianity also underwent a similar reform in the early years of industrialization, one that saw the new testament and the message of Jesus love prioritized over the laws of the old testament.
If Islam really means ‘peace’ like a lot of Muslims love to claim, then there should be a sincere and heightened effort to stop violent extremism and abuses from being associated with the religion.
It is only when we still have a voice that we can talk, if violent extremism wins then all will be for nought.

You make a valid point. There are peace loving Muslims but even among many moderate Muslims (not all) that I have seen...they still treat women as second class citizens.
It's gotten better but it is still there. And has a long way to go.
Of course in general men in this World do treat women badly. It transcends all religions and people.
It's just many Muslim men justify it by referring to Islamic doctrine :(
Exactly. They need to hasten fundamental changes to be more in tune with current realities

This article talks about the Rohingya Muslims fleeing Myanmar to Bangladesh at the moment, because they being killed for being of that sect.
You are so right with regards Christianity. When the protestants first broke away from the Catholic church this caused similar conflict between the two sects. In England, if you didn't convert to the religion of the monarch you'd be executed. Thankfully Christianity has come a long way, but it took many generations. I hope that Islam doesn't take so long.
