The Elbphilharmonie (concert hall) in Hamburg!
Hello dear blog readers,
In this article I would like to share some great photos of the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and some information about this building.
The large concert hall on at the river Elbe was completed in 2016 (construction period 2007-2016) and has become a cultural monument and landmark of the city. The building was built on the base of the former „Kaispeicher A“ (built in 1963) and the concert hall is 110 meters high.
The Elbphilharmonie is designed with a large glass facade. This should remind of sails, water waves, icebergs or a quartz crystal and is also very easy to see from a distance. The curved roof shape of the Elbphilharmonie is also called "glassy wave".
The building stands on a load-distributing platform on 1732 piles, which were rammed deep into the ground of the river Elbe and the concert hall has 26 floors. The former „Kaispeicher A“, on whose foundation the Elbphilharmonie was built, was used as cocoa, tea and tobacco storage in the past.
Finally, here are a few more photos of the building, which I took in December with a mirror reflex camera:
Best regards and hear you in my next article!
