Short Read - Forceful Family Separations: A shift in Mindset

If I were to ask a child care worker the goal of her agency, I doubt I’ll ever get Suitable answer because my data shows me that the end goal of separating erring parents from their kids, which should be to protect them – is neither really achieved nor acknowledged.

The general mindset currently prevalent in the system implies that kids somehow need protection from their parents, which has led to consequences such as wrongful interventions with damaging consequences.

A good example is the propensity to first separate kids form suspected parents even before it is proven…popularly known as kidnap. It is a system that seems to feed the need for a definitive divide without exploring all other possible options.

This is wrong. The goal of every child care agency should be seeing as many children and their families as possible living happily together. This could be done by providing solutions to potential causes of offences like poverty and child support, counseling et all. If this can be provided it will be virtually
Impossible to protest against genuine cases that warrant separations.
