5 Ways to improve your guitar playing!

in #blog7 years ago

Here are some tips that helped me through the time to improve my technique while playing guitar:

  1. Use a metronome: Using a metronome is definitely one of the fastest ways to improve. Practice at low tempo and gradually increase tempo on the metronome, remember whats important here is repetition, coordination and precision, you better spend 10 minutes practicing slow than 4 hours practicing fast tempos... 2. Learn something new everyday: It really doesn't matter what, it just need to be something new for you, a whole song, a riff, a lick, an exercise, whatever... The idea here is that you get your brain used to incorporate new information everyday, with the time you will find that learning songs and more complex stuff will become easier, at the same time you are practicing everyday and expanding your musical vocabulary. If you want an idea of what to learn everyday, you could follow other guitar players who periodically release licks and ideas, for example, i have been releasing a series of "learn that lick" videos that could help anyone: https://steemit.com/guitar/@dreamrafa/learn-that-lick-2-mateus-asato-with-tab

  3. Play what you like!.. That's it, there is no much point in practicing long boring exercises that only will discourage you from practicing. If you are a beginner and you teacher taught you some chromatic fingering exercise, just practice them as long you don't get bored, at the moment to get bored, go and practice something else, don't force yourself. The idea here is that practicing should be something FUN!, something you love to do, when you are at work, you should think: "damn, i want to arrive home to practice guitar!", if you don't feel like a kid playing with his favorite toy, you are doing it wrong! boy-playing-guitar-1.jpg

  4. Play with other musicians: A great way to improve is playing with other people, specially if the other musicians are a bit more experienced than you are, but overall you can learn from even newbies, don't stop yourself from sharing with other peers, whoever they are. IMG_20150211_220606.jpg

  5. Learn songs written for other instruments: Try to learn some songs on the guitars, that usually are played in piano, or other instruments. Remember that "Imagine (John Lennon)" piano riff?, try something like that in guitar, you get the idea!

Hope this was useful for you!, if you have more tips, leave them on the comment section!

Best Regards!
