RE: How to Solve Fake News with Proof of Consensus and Blockchains

in #blockchain7 years ago (edited)

What a very interesting discussion. :-)

Within the limits of a discussion about blockchains, it is valuable to be an advocate of consensus over disagreement.

In the wider context of the world, agreement and disagreement are balancing forces of chaos and order. Promotion of one over the other leads to an imbalance. An imbalance leads to an increase in suffering at some level of existence.

I think blockchains are a way of addressing a wider imbalance of power structures in the real world. Issues of centralization of power and abuse of power are rampant in a world effected by totalitarian forces. I would caution too much idealism being attached to the value of consensus outside of this limited context of blockchain technology. It has merit, but that merit has limits.

I have my own thoughts on consensus. The feminine works with consensus. The masculine manipulates through force of will. Either one can be a tyranny if there is no balance. To create the divine child of the fruitful union of masculine and feminine both need to come together in unison. Consensus secures, manipulation moves. We need security, but we need flexibility.
