Social media is a superb enabler for average people to taste a little bit of the glamour life of celebrities by just showing their interests on specific channels. If your hobby is for example watches you can share your expertise, your passion for design, your favorite brands and mechanics on a social media channel.

In case the person provides amazing content, which adds value for other people the likelihood of an increasing following number is a non-brainer. Moreover, the possibility that someone who does not like watches will interact and go with our “influencer” are rather low. This is a perfect opportunity for companies to advertise specific target groups with their niche products.

What if I know tell you that there exists a platform which could connect the above described person with companies that pay him to do this? Our influencer can just continue with what he is doing and earns a little extra or might even make a living out of it.

So how does it work?

Patron is a platform that combines social media with the sharing economy. For those not aware what the sharing economy is: It is a recent developed business model where private households and even companies can share their belongings with other people in the community. An example would be Airbnb where people can rent their private homes to other people to earn a little extra when they are for example on holiday.
Back to Patron. It is build on the Etherum blockchain technology enabling to create a standard and common cryptocurrency used within the Patron ecosystem.

Which parties are involved?

There are three different stakeholders in this model:

• Host; or Influencer
• Guest; or Sponsor
• Fan; or Follower

The first one is the “influencer” who provides exclusive and individual content on several social media channels. He will get approached by sponsors to promote (sometimes exclusive sometimes not) their products as a brand ambassador on his social media accounts. This partnership has a specific time duration which is negotiated in the contract. As an example, our influencer gets contacted by the Swiss watch manufacturer that has a crown as a logo asking for exclusive content promotion for a month. Both parties will negotiate the conditions and in the end our influencer gets paid to promote the products in his channel.

The second one is the sponsor who engages with our person that shares good watch content. By using the Patron platform to find the right influencer a specific marketing reach is guaranteed. Furthermore, the guest is able to see some characteristics of the following crowd of the influencer, making it easier to choose their perfect brand ambassador. To secure payment for hosts, sponsors get financially screened before they can engage with them.

Last but not least, fans (the follower of specific influencer) can join this platform in order to support their influencer via likes to increase the their rating and therefore their marketability. On the other hand influencer can better engage with their loyal followers by providing contests, giveaways and events.

Factors which evaluate the worth of the influencer

Patron created an evaluation scale of three criteria to provide a visible and easy to understand pricing model. The first consists of the number of followers the influencer has on his channels. The next one is the engagement level between the influencer and the following base and the last one is the reputation which the influencer gets from the followers.

The sum up

With Patron people which share their passion on social media have a simple possibility to monetize their work . Sponsors on the other hand have a superb search metric to target the right client group in order to increase their conversions rate. In other words in our example the influencer might have the possibility to make his passion his fulltime job and the sponsoring crown brand can increase their sales.
